The Prince of Wales and the King focus on 'the knowledge and practice of their roles'

Prince George has a huge team helping him navigate his future, including his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales.

However, royal historian Marlene Koenig explained that Princess Kate's approach to preparing her 12-year-old son is very different from that of Prince William.

While William and King Charles focus on “the knowledge and practice of their roles,” Koenig claims Kate concentrates on treating George like a child rather than a future monarch.

“She will never have a constitutional role, except as regent in a worst-case scenario, if George becomes king before age 18,” Koenig told Us Weekly.

“She is there to be the loving, supportive mum in everything George does, because he is her son first and foremost.”

Kate’s role doesn’t exclude preparing George for royal life.

The 43-year-old has taught herself how to navigate the high-profile demands of the monarchy, using her own experience to guide George, according to the historian.

“She and William dated for nearly 10 years before their engagement was announced, which allowed her the time and space to learn about her future life as a member of the Royal Family,” Koenig opined.

“In time, as wife of the heir to the throne and eventually as a Queen Consort. She is also the mother of a future King.”

George’s upbringing has always been influenced by his eventual responsibilities.

Koenig noted that the young prince’s readiness is already evident.

During King Charles’s Coronation in 2023, George participated in the ceremony as one of his father’s train bearers, making Royal Family history.

“George is the first member of the Royal Family to have such a role in the service,” Koenig said.

“If the young prince was nervous, he didn’t show it.”

Prince George’s daily routine and schooling are subtly influenced by lessons that will help him understand public duties and royal protocol, without overwhelming him with the weight of the crown.

Princess Kate likely ensures that despite the spotlight, George still enjoys ordinary childhood experiences, from family outings to quiet evenings at home, grounding him in a sense of normalcy.
