Princess Kate and King Charles could be set to miss an event close to the Royal Family's hearts.

The Chelsea Flower Show is a key date in the royal calendar each year, with the Princess of Wales, the King, Princess Beatrice, Queen Camilla and the Duchess of Edinburgh being regular attendees.

However, only one royal couple has been confirmed to attend this year's show, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester, 77, is a Danish-born member of the British Royal Family, married to Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, 79, a first cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The famous garden flower show will officially open to the public on May 21, and members of the Royal Family usually attend the preview on the eve before.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester will be among the royal guests in attendance at the gala preview at the Royal Hospital Chelsea on May 20, according to the royal diary.

It has not yet been confirmed whether the King and Queen will be in attendance.

King Charles is currently undergoing cancer treatment and has paused his public-facing duties.

The Chelsea Flower Show has long been associated with the Royal Family, as Queen Elizabeth II was patron of the Royal Horticultural Society since the start of her 70-year reign.

Her Late Majesty's last visit to the show was in May 2022, just four months before her death.

Kate, Princess of Wales is a huge fan of the event, and was even co-designer of the child-friendly Back to Nature garden in 2019.

Last year, the princess joined youngsters at the inaugural children's picnic during the show.

It is not known whether or not Kate will be among the royal guests at the Chelsea Flower Show while she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis.

Over the years, the King's extended family have enjoyed the event, including his niece, Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, who visited in 2022.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh also attended that same year.

Despite stepping down as a senior royal, Prince Harry formerly enjoyed commissioning gardens to support his charity Sentebale in 2013 and 2015.
