The Princess of Wales celebrates her 42nd birthday today

The King and Queen have wished the Princess of Wales a happy birthday today on social media.

The Royal Family’s official X account posted a happy birthday message alongside a picture of Kate at the King’s Coronation in May.

The birthday photo shows Princess Kate at King Charles’s Coronation smiling towards the monarch and the Duke and the Duchess of Edinburgh following the service at Westminster Abbey.

The birthday tweet read: “Wishing The Princess of Wales a very happy birthday today!”

The Princess wears a long, white, floral embroidered gown covered by ceremonial robes of red, white and blue in the birthday photo.

Kate also wears a grand, enchanting headpiece with glittering three-dimensional leaves alongside Princess Diana’s iconic diamond and pearl earrings.

The King is shown wearing the solid gold Imperial State Crown and royal robes.

Princess Kate has also received well wishes from military groups, charities, organisations and hundreds of birthday tweets and social media messages from the public.

The V&A, the Scouts, the Maternal Mental Health Alliance, England Rugby and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices were among those to wish the Princess happy birthday and thank her for her continued support.

England Rugby posted a tribute to the Princess tweeting: “A very happy birthday to our patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales!”

The tweet showed a video of Kate in the England Rugby team locker room shaking hands, chatting and laughing with the England players.

The V&A also took to Twitter to thank Kate for her “continued support, championing of youth creativity and early years development, and celebration of art and design.”

The Princess is expected to celebrate her birthday in private alongside her husband Prince William and her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

Royal commentator Ingrid Seward told the Mirror: “Family life has always been central for the Princess of Wales and she loved an excuse to celebrate.”

Traditionally the royals only celebrate milestone birthdays with the public so there is not expected to be a public celebration until Kate turns 45.
