Princess Kate's deputy private secretary wore a matching outfit with the future Queen earlier this week.

The Princess of Wales was accompanied by one of her closest aides during her visit to Stirling and Falkirk on January 20.

Natalie Barrows, who has served as Kate's deputy private secretary since 2017, stood near the royal couple throughout their Scottish engagement.

The pair appeared to coordinate their outfits for the occasion, both sporting blue tartan coats.

Kate wore a bespoke piece crafted by Savile Row tailor Chris Kerr, featuring fabric specially created by Johnstons of Elgin.

After nearly a decade at Kensington Palace, Ms Barrows has emerged as the future Queen's most trusted right-hand woman.

Ms Barrows's position functions similarly to a chief of staff, encompassing diary management, travel coordination and correspondence oversight.

She ensures Princess Kate receives thorough briefings on everyone she will encounter at official functions.

During walkabouts and public appearances, Ms Barrows maintains a position just metres from the princess, prepared to collect bouquets, cards and gifts from members of the public at a moment's notice.

The role also involves organising official programmes and engagements for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Earlier in her royal career, Kate often relied on her deputy private secretary to carry a bag containing essentials for engagements, though she now frequently brings her own handbag.

Ms Barrows has been spotted alongside the princess on numerous occasions for those who know where to look.

At Kate's surprise Wimbledon appearance in 2023, she sat just seats away in the royal box, handbag at the ready with essentials.

She was also seen handing the princess her white leather Mulberry Amberley bag upon arrival at the All England Club.

During the state visit of South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2022, photographers captured Kate grinning broadly while chatting with Ms Barrows in the back of a royal car.

When the princess touched down in the Bahamas in March 2022, Ms Barrows stood discreetly behind her, stepping forward at precisely the right moment to take a bouquet so Kate could continue greeting dignitaries.

Remaining out of the spotlight is fundamental to Ms Barrows's position, and her ability to blend into the background while supporting the royals demonstrates her skill in the role.

Almost nothing is publicly known about her personal life, which arguably makes her ideally suited to the demands of royal service.

The matching tartan coats worn during the Scotland visit perhaps symbolised the close bond between Kate and her trusted aide, who has remained by her side through some of the most difficult periods of her life.

The position demands exceptional discretion and an intimate understanding of how royal life operates.
