Princess Kate is recovering at home following a 'planned abdominal procedure'

Royal commentator Katie Nicholl has expressed her concern for Prince William after pulling out of an appearance an hour before it was scheduled.

The Prince of Wales cancelled his attendance at a memorial service for the late King Constantine of Greece, naming "personal reasons" as the cause.

Other members of the Royal Family including Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, and Prince Andrew did attend the service at St George's Chapel.

Kensington Palace also assured concerned royal fans that the last minute absence was "nothing to do with Princess Kate" and confirmed she is "progressing very well".

The Princess of Wales is currently recuperating from a "planned abdominal procedure" and is not expected to return to work until after Easter.

The cancellation was also confirmed as not related to the death of the Prince and Princess of Kent's son-in-law, Thomas Kingston, who recently died aged 45.

Discussing the latest events of the Royal Family, royal commentator Katie Nicholl said the loss of Thomas Kingston has been a "deep shock and a real tragedy" for the royals.

Nicholl added that the statement announcing Kingston's loss was a "personal" anecdote from Buckingham Palace.

Speaking to GB News, Nicholl explained that Prince William "only lives three miles" from the Chapel where the service was held.

Host Isabel Webster noted that "a lot of people are concerned about the Wales household" at the moment.

Nicholl told GB News: "We were told that William's absence had nothing to do with the news about Tom Kingston. It had nothing to do with the King's health and as we know, the King's just weeks into a shock cancer diagnosis and undergoing treatment.

"And in fact the King was seen leaving Windsor an hour or so before the service to come to London, we understand for meetings and or treatment. So we weren't expecting to see him at yesterday's memorial."

She continued: "But we were not only expecting to see the Prince of Wales, we were expecting to hear from him. In fact, his name had been published on the order of service. A royal pulling out an hour before an event, it simply doesn't happen. They do not like to let people down.

"They're never late, let alone pulling out of something. So to pull out of something for an important family member, as I said it was William's godfather, was absolutely unusual."

Discussing the latest on the Princess of Wales's health, Nicholl highlighted that the Princess "has not been seen since Christmas Day".

The royal commentator noted: "She has undergone clearly very serious abdominal surgery. A 13 night stay in hospital, I think indicates the severity of that, who we understand isn't going to be seen until well after Easter.

"It is obviously concerning. I must add that when we got that statement out of the palace, it was caveated with a subsequent sort of guidance memo that the Princess of Wales is continuing her recovery, which I think is intended as reassurance for, obviously not an overstatement to say, panicked public."
