Princess Kate is receiving 'preventative' cancer treatment following her diagnosis

Royal commentator Lady Colin Campbell has highlighted the "key positive point" for the Princess of Wales, as she receives cancer treatment following her abdominal surgery in January.

In her latest health update announced to the world, Princess Kate revealed she has begun "preventative" treatment after a test found cancer had been present, following her procedure.

Speaking to GBN America, Lady C said the royal was "very lucky" to have caught her cancer so early on, and the Prince and Princess of Wales are "coping as positively and as well as they can".

Host Nana Akua shared her thoughts on Princess Kate's health update and said it was "such sad and terrible news".

When questioned on how the future looks for Prince William during this "tough time" for his family with both Princess Kate and King Charles's cancer treatments, Lady C said the announcement was "not great news, but it's much better than it could have been".

The royal commentator also revealed that she has been "speaking to doctors" about cancer following both royal announcements.

Lady C explained: "When you have surgery, cancer is usually very visible. So the mere fact that it wasn't visibly obvious during the surgery, and that it only became apparent during the histology tests, shows that indeed it was very, very early and very, very optimistic.

"And she's really very lucky that she had the underlying condition which caused her to have surgery. Otherwise they never have known."

In the Princess's moving video statement, she asked for "privacy" for her young family to "process" a "tough few months" since her operation and the beginning of her treatment, but stressed she is "well" and thanked royal fans for their support.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Reacting to the Princess of Wales's statement, Lady C said the fact that Kate stressed she is "well" implies "that they have caught everything".

She told GBN America: "And she did make the point that it was preventative. Preventative chemotherapy means just making sure there are no free radicals floating around anywhere, so they're doing a mopping up exercise."

Lady C said it's not "great news" for the Princess, but "insofar as bad news is on the scale of 1 to 10, it's one".

Nana was in agreement with Lady C, but admitted she is "concerned" for the King and Princess, as they are the "key players" in the Royal Family.

Nana told GBN America: "The King and Catherine are obviously two of the main star players and the Royal Family.

"Do you remember it in 1992 when the Queen called the year Annus horribilis? It feels like we're back there again."

Lady C agreed, responding: "I think to an extent you're right, because so much that's untoward has gone on. Not only in terms of Harry and Meghan and their followers antics, but also the health issues.

"William and Catherine are coping as positively and as well as they can. They're both very levelheaded people, they're not drama queens like Harry and Meghan, they're not going to make a drama into a crisis. And they're going to be coping with this in as measured and sensible a way as possible.

"And I understand from people in the medical profession that she is actually the ideal patient because she's very positive, she's very intelligent, she's not creating a drama and a crisis where there's no need to. And she's evidently very amenable. She's very fit, she's very athletic, so that's all good."
