Princess Charlotte turned nine today but already has plenty of confidence and a feisty attitude

A royal expert has given an insight into the personality of Princess Charlotte as she celebrates her ninth birthday.

The Royal Family have released a new snap of the young princess to celebrate her birthday where she beaming as she leans against a fence covered in pink flowers.

Prince William and Princess Kate's only daughter has been reported to have a feisty attitude in the past, and Royal commentator Charles Rae claimed that she "puts her brother in his place."

Speaking to GB News Rae said: "She's not only third in line to the throne, but she's quite a feisty little girl.

"And she at times does put her brothers, including George, who one day will be king, in their place.

"She tells them off when she needs to. She was dubbed at nursery school as the warrior princess.

"She's all sweet and nice and everything else, but she can tell them off if she wants to."

GB News host Ellie Costello said: "You can see, I think the family genes coming through.

"I think she looks the picture of the late Queen Elizabeth. I think she's got that look about her.

"She does have that kind of no-nonsense attitude that you just alluded to there, like when she told her brothers off on the balcony, very like Princess Anne. She just gets on with things, doesn't she?"

Rae responded: "She likes to get on with things. She's very natural in her role. I think she has got a few mannerisms of Princess Anne.

"You're quite right, she's definitely no-nonsense. I mean, who can forget when she's been ticking off George for not paying attention at various events and Louis too? Yeah, she's very natural. She's a lovely girl."

The past few months have been an eventful period for the family after Kate and King Charles were both diagnosed with cancer.

The future Queen announced in a video message in March she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy.

She explained she had not spoken about it earlier because she wanted to have time to "explain everything" to George, Charlotte and Louis and assure them "I'm going to be ok".

In March, several photo agencies issued a "kill notice" on a picture of the Princess of Wales and her three children that had been released for Mother's Day.

It was the first official photo published of Kate after she underwent abdominal surgery in January.

The following day, the Princess of Wales admitted she edited the Mother's Day photo and apologised for "any confusion" caused.
