The Princess Royal arrived at the prestigious event wearing a sophisticated navy wrap dress featuring a delicate paisley pattern in a lustrous fabric.

However, it was her striking jewellery that commanded attention - a magnificent sapphire brooch that served as the centrepiece of her ensemble.

The brooch, featuring a substantial oblong sapphire encircled by 12 diamonds, is a replica of the historic Prince Albert brooch and holds deep significance within the Royal Family's jewellery collection.

The original Prince Albert brooch was presented to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert on the eve of their wedding in 1840, becoming one of her most treasured pieces.

Following Prince Albert's death in 1861, Queen Victoria ceased wearing the brooch, and in her will, she designated it "an heirloom of the Crown".

This designation ensures the piece is reserved for future Queens and Queen Consorts, which explains why Queen Camilla wore the £10million brooch during a visit to Italy in April.

Prince Albert commissioned replicas of the original brooch for his daughters, establishing a tradition of royal copies.

Princess Anne's replica brooch was gifted to her by her mother, Queen Elizabeth II, from the collection of copies Prince Albert had made.

The Princess Royal typically reserves this particular piece for more significant royal engagements, underscoring the importance of today's military musical event.

The sapphire's deep blue hue created a striking complement to her navy dress, with Anne completing the coordinated look with matching gloves and shoes.

Her careful styling choices highlighted the brooch's prominence, demonstrating why this historic replica remains a favoured piece in her extensive jewellery collection.
