An unauthorised biography chronicling the life of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has experienced a dramatic surge in demand, with purchases increasing by 466 per cent within a single day of his arrest.

The former royal was detained at his Sandringham residence on Thursday, his 66th birthday, on suspicion of misconduct in public office.


Following 11 hours in police custody, he was subsequently released as detectives pursue their enquiries.

Andrew Lownie's "The Rise and Fall of the House of York" has nearly quintupled in popularity according to Amazon's trending products tracker, with shoppers rushing to purchase the volume in the wake of the shocking development.

Mr Lownie has established himself as a respected authority on royal affairs, having previously penned acclaimed works examining the lives of the former King Edward VIII, who gave up the throne in 1938, and Lord Mountbatten, who was the uncle of the late Prince Philip.

The royal commentator's latest work has attracted considerable attention from readers seeking insight into the Queen's second son.

The comprehensive volume examines the former duke's military career during the Falklands conflict, his union with Sarah Ferguson, and the startling disclosures concerning their associations with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
