Speaking on the Patrick Bet-David podcast this week, Kennedy Jr said: “If he were going to drop out the time to drop out would be during the convention because then he would control the delegates, because they’re all Biden delegates, and he would then be able to pick his successor.”

If Biden did this, it would ensure all of his secured delegates would vote for who he wants to be the next Democratic candidate, Kennedy Jr said.

Explaining why dropping out during the convention would benefit Biden, Kennedy Jr explained: “It’s because he knows he can’t endure a general election campaign, or because he’s been told he better not try.”

The convention will take place in August of next year, and political parties will select their nominees for their party for the 2024 US Presidential Election.

Biden has admitted he considered dropping out of the race but feels compelled to seek a second term to prevent Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

Recent opinion polls suggest Biden, 81, and Trump, 77, will romp to victory in their respective primary races.

Speaking at a campaign event in Boston, the Commander-in-Chief said: “If Trump wasn’t running, I’m not sure I’d be running. We cannot let him win.”

Trump got out of the blocks early by announcing his candidacy on just days after last year’s lacklustre midterm elections for the GOP on November 15.

Despite weak poll numbers and questions being raised about his age, Biden has stuck to his plan to seek a second term.

He officially submitted his FEC filing in April, warning: "This is not a time to be complacent.”

Some Democrats have argued that the party does not need a backup plan in order to take down likely Republican candidate Donald Trump.

“There is no Plan B. If he were... suddenly not to run, everyone you know would run. The VP scares no one,” a senior Democrat told Reuters.

Biden campaign spokesperson Daniel Wessel said: “Joe Biden will be the Democratic nominee and he will beat whichever MAGA extremist the Republicans put forward.”

Biden's popularity plunged to near its lowest level of his presidency this month, in a potential omen for his re-election bid next year, according to a new Ipsos poll.

The three-day opinion poll, which polled over 1,000 voting Americans and closed on Sunday, showed 40 per cent of respondents approved of Biden's performance as president, a marginal increase from 39 per cent in November.

Biden's public approval rating has held below 50 per cent since August 2021, and this month's rating remained close to the lowest levels of his presidency - 36 per cent - seen in mid-2022.

The poll comes as Trump suggested he would act as a dictator on his first day back in the White House.

The 45th President, who is hoping to become the second President to serve two non-consecutive terms in the Oval Office, revealed he would act as a dictator to close the southern border with Mexico and expand oil drilling.

Speaking with Fox News, host Sean Hannity asked him: “You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?”

Trump responded: “No, no, no, other than day one. We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.”

Recent opinion polls suggest Trump has narrowed the seven million vote lead Biden opened up in 2020.
