The comments came after Tucker Carlson told Megyn Kelly that the former First Lady 'obviously' hates her husband

Former First Lady Michelle Obama has laughed off rumours of marital problems with her husband Barack, saying everyone would know if their relationship was in trouble.

Speaking on a podcast with entrepreneur Steven Bartlett, she addressed speculation about the couple's future.

"If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it," she said with a laugh.

Bartlett mentioned how media had speculated about a potential divorce after she missed Donald Trump's inauguration.

"Let me tell you, he would know it," Obama said, pointing to her brother Craig Robinson. "And everybody would know it."

The 61-year-old was promoting her own podcast that she hosts with Robinson.

She added that she's "not a martyr" and joked about how she would handle marital strife publicly.

"I would be problem-solving in public, like, 'Let me tell you what he did,'" she said.

Robinson took the joke further: "If they were having a problem, I'd be doing a podcast with him."

The comments came after Tucker Carlson told Megyn Kelly that the former First Lady "obviously" hates her husband.

Carlson claimed Michelle's "hostility toward the guy is unbelievable."

Michelle acknowledged that marriage is "hard" for her and the former President but added that "I wouldn't trade it," calling Barack "as the young people say... my person."

"The beauty of my husband and our partnership is that neither one of us was ever really, ever going to quit at it," she explained.

She believes young people give up on marriage too soon, partly because they see a false image of perfection.

"I talk about these things because I think that people give up too quickly on marriage," the "Becoming" author said.

"Because they look at me and Barack and go, '#couple goals.' And I'm like, it's hard," Obama added.

The Obamas have been married for 32 years but have faced ongoing rumours about their relationship status in recent months.

Speculation intensified after Michelle skipped President Jimmy Carter's funeral and Trump's inauguration.

Earlier this month, she addressed these absences directly on actress Sophia Bush's podcast.

"That's the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with disappointing people," Obama said.

"They couldn't even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing," she added.

Despite the rumours, the Obamas have been seen dining out together twice in DC over the last month.

Michelle has been open about their marriage struggles throughout the years on her new podcast, IMO (In my Opinion).

She has shared that Barack was broke when they met and that she had to be convinced to support his presidential bid.

She's also mentioned personal grievances, like his former impunctuality and lack of deep conversations with his golf friends.

Barack recently admitted he was in a "deep deficit" with his wife, further fuelling speculation.
