Americans have been far from convinced about Tyler Cherry's promotion to the White House

Joe Biden has been accused of promoting a controversial far-left official to a White House communications role.

Tyler Cherry joins the White House after spending more than three years at Interior working for Secretary Deb Haaland.

Cherry, who started last week as an associate communications director, sparked controversy last year after criticising police and Israel on social media.

Posting in 2015, he wrote: “Praying for #Baltimore, but praying even harder for an end to a capitalistic police state motivated by explicit and implicit racial biases.”

Cherry was responding to riots following the death of Freddie Gray in police custody in Baltimore.

In a separate post months later, he added: “Apt (sic) time to recall that the modern day police system is a direct evolution of slave patrols and lynch mobs.”

Cherry also posted about the so-called “Russiagate” issue facing ex-President Donald Trump during his stint in the White House.

Immigration & Customs Enforcement came under from Cherry in 2018 to be abolished.

He wrote posts in support of Palestine since the 2014 Gaza War.

Cherry said on July 25, 2014: “Cheersing in bars to ending the occupation of Palestine — no shame and f**k your glares #ISupportGaza #FreePalestine.”

Cherry has also spent much of his time of social media rubbishing Republicans.

He accused the Grand Old Party of pursuing “white grievance politics” in 2017.

In a social media post, Cherry added: “The Tea Party was never about the debt/deficit but about racism and white grievance politics.”

Responding to his promotion, a social media user wrote: “You can’t make s**t like this up. This is comical!”

Another said: “Tyler Cherry is yet another example of the complete clown show we have in the White House. Tragic.”

A third added: “Biden seems to go above and beyond to find the most outrageous and woke people to work along side him. Is it November yet? I am ready for this circus to end.”

White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates said: "We’re very proud to have Tyler on the team."
