There have been concerns about the cognitive abilities of the two men

President Joe Biden has mocked Donald Trump for mixing up key US politicians.

The former President appeared to confuse his Republican opponent Nikki Haley with former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

It comes as there have been concerns about the health and fitness of both President Biden, 81, and former President Trump, 77.

Speaking a rally in Concord, New Hampshire, on Friday night, Trump seemed to confuse Haley with Pelosi.

Speaking at the rally, Trump said: ""By the way, they never reported the crowd on January 6. Nikki Haley, you know they, do you know they destroyed all of the information, all of the evidence, everything, deleted and destroyed all of it.

"All of it because of lots of things, like Nikki Haley is in charge of security. We offered her 10,000 people, soldiers, National Guard, whatever they want. They turned it down. They don’t want to talk about that. These are very dishonest people."

At a rally in Peterborough, New Hampshire, Haley said: "We see that Biden has changed so much over two years. But last night, Trump is at a rally and he's going on and on, mentioning me multiple times as to why I didn't take security during the Capitol riots.

"Why I didn't handle January 6th better. I wasn't even in DC on January 6th. I wasn't in office then. They're saying you got confused, that he was talking about something else, that he was talking about Nancy Pelosi."

Biden posted clips from Trump's and Haley's speeches in his Sunday video on social media. He said: "I don't agree with Nikki Haley on everything, but we agree on this much: She is not Nancy Pelosi."

It is not the first time Trump has mixed up politicians. In October, Trump identified Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban as Turkey's leader, mixing him up with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

However, Biden has had mix ups with names in the past. Joe Biden got Britney Spears muddled up with fellow pop stars Taylor Swift and Beyoncé at the ceremony pardoning two turkeys in the White House's annual ceremony before the Thanksgiving holiday.

In June, the president made a comment about Russian leader Vladimir Putin's "war in Iraq".

The contest for the Republican candidacy was whittled down to a two horse race after Ron DeSantis dropped out of the race earlier today.

Trump and his aides want to convince Haley, her voters and her donors as well as the media covering the campaign that the race is over and Trump will be the nominee to face President Biden in November.

On the other hand, experts say a Haley win in New Hampshire would energize the anti-Trump forces in the party.

Despite this, polls have shown DeSantis' supporters are more likely to switch their support to Trump than Haley.
