A SAS war hero has handed Donald Trump’s 2024 White House campaign a boost in front of a rapturous crowd in New Jersey.

Christian Craighead, 48, who served as a Warrant Officer, was awarded a Conspicuous Gallantry Cross for his role in the rescue of 700 civilians trapped inside a hotel complex during a 2019 terrorist attack in Kenya.

However, Craighead last week found himself in front of an 100,000-strong crowd explaining why he believes Trump is the right candidate to lead the US for the next four years.

He told The Telegraph: “The crux of the speech I gave was that the first words Donald Trump said to me when I met him in 2019 was ‘thank you for saving Americans'.”

Craighead, who now lives in the US and hopes to obtain American citizenship, first met the 45th President during a visit to the White House.

The 48-year-old had even been in a relationship with Trump’s then-Chief Official White House Photographer Shealah Craighead.

Craighead believes Trump will emulate Grover Cleveland in becoming just the second Commander-in-Chief to serve two non-consecutive terms in the Oval Office.

He said: “I’ve no doubt that Trump will win the presidency.

“I’ve always admired him for his straight talking. I think a lot of British soldiers do as well.

“I think they appreciate someone who tells it as it is and that is why he is not liked by some politicians.

“If the UK had a leader like Trump then the country might not be in the state it is today and why we have got the Army of a failed nation.”

Trump used his appearance in New Jersey to attack New York prosecutors over his hush money criminal trial in Manhattan.

He also appeared to suggest his White House successor Joe Biden was involved in the proceedings.

The pair will face off next month in the first debate of the 2024 US Presidential Election campaign.

Following the Biden-Trump showdown on CNN on June 27, Trump and Biden will meet again for ABC's debate on September 10.

The debates will bypass the Presidential Debate Commission which traditionally coordinates the process after conversations between staff from the two campaigns.

Biden's team have insisted that the two debates do not include a live audience

The Trump campaign have reportedly agreed to Biden’s demands.
