The US President declared 'no other military on earth' could have stepped in during a speech at the Nato Summit in The Hague

US President Donald Trump has been hailed by former military officer James Sunderland after he hailed a "complete and total" ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

Speaking to GB News, Sunderland said Trump is "a man you can't ignore" and "can't be messed with".

Delivering his speech to the Nato Summit in The Hague, the US President declared his nation is "paving the way for peace" in the Middle East, and that "no other military on earth" could have stepped in the way they did.

He said: "Last week the United States carried out a massive precision strike on Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities, and it was very, very successful.

"It was called obliteration. No other military on earth could have done it, and now this incredible exercise of American strength paved the way for peace with a historic ceasefire agreement."

Discussing the President's achievements on GB News, Sunderland said: "I think that he's a man you can't mess with. He's a man you can't ignore, he's a man that means business.

"And don't forget, having been kicked out of the White House the first time and been given this very rare opportunity to go back, he's going to make the most of it. So anybody thinks that Trump is there to be a passenger for the next four years, forget it, he's there to make an impact."

Noting Trump's iconic image, he added: "Trump is a man you can't ignore. When he walked into the room, he's there, eyes are fixed on him. He's a big man, he's six foot three, plus there's lots of him.

"He is bright orange, and I've said it before, he has extraordinary hair, but lots of presence and lots of charisma."

Recalling his meeting with Trump during the D-Day 75 celebrations, Sunderland revealed the US President is an "extraordinary character".

Sunderland said: "I was in uniform at the time, he came across and said hello. I was in the US tent for lunch at the D-Day 75 commemoration in Portsmouth. It was a fantastic day and he came across to pay homage to the veterans.

"But he is an extraordinary character, I think he means what he says, or likes to think so, and he was a visitor at Sandhurst as well when I was there, so I think that he's definitely a man you can't mess with."

Delivering his verdict on Trump's meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, Sunderland highlighted their relationship is one of the "most pivotal in world politics" at this current time.

Sunderland concluded: "It's a long time to meet between two leaders, but actually the Trump-Zelensky relationship is really, really important, probably the most pivotal relationship in world politics at this point in time.

"I would hope that Zelensky is using his influence and his skills to ensure that Trump is not too far away from the solution, which clearly is a ceasefire in Ukraine, an end to Russian aggression."

He added: "I also suspect that Trump is talking to Zelensky about the future. In other words, what does peace in Ukraine look like? What does a lasting solution look like? I know for a fact that Zelensky will not wish to settle on the current border, he wants to get his territory back, and quite clearly he will not write a blank cheque to Putin in any peace agreement."
