The US President criticised CNN and the New York Times for their 'fake news'

Donald Trump remains defiant that Iran's nuclear programme has been "totally obliterated", despite a new intelligence report casting doubts over his claim.

Fears that Iran's nuclear programme could continue are running high, following a lack of solid evidence that America's strikes took out the country's uranium enrichment sites.

A new intelligence report from the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency stated the strikes did not destroy Tehran's nuclear programme, only setting it back by months.

The White House said the assessment is "flat-out wrong" and is "a clear attempt to demean" the President.

Posting on his Truth Social, Trump raged at CNN and the New York Times for their reporting.

He wrote in all caps: "Fake news CNN, together with the failing New York Times, have teamed up in an attempt to demean one of the most successful military strikes in history.

"The nuclear sites in Iran are completely destroyed! Both the Times and CNN are getting slammed by the public!"

Donald Trump's special envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, dismissed the report, saying there is "no doubt" all three nuclear sites have been "obliterated".

He told Fox News: "It's outrageous, it's treasonous, and it has to be investigated. Whoever's responsible for it should be held accountable."

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth echoed the President's statement, stating Iran's nuclear facilities are "buried under a mountain of rubble".

Hegseth said: "Our massive bombs hit exactly the right spot at each target and worked perfectly. The impact of those bombs is buried under a mountain of rubble in Iran.

"So anyone who says the bombs were not devastating is just trying to undermine the President and the successful mission."

The US deployed seven B-2 stealth bombers to take out Iran's key Fordow bunker, Natanz and Esfahan sites.

At the same time, 24 cruise missiles were launched at the Isfahan site from a submarine, with a total of 75 "precision-guided weapons" being used in the strikes.

Trump noted that he does not want to see a regime change in Iran, believing it could create "chaos".

He said: "I'd like to see everything calm down as quickly as possible. Regime change takes chaos, and ideally, we don't want to see so much chaos."

Russian President Vladimir Putin lent his hand in dealing with Iran, but Trump rejected his offer, telling Putin: "No, I don't need help with Iran, I need help with you."

The US President captured headlines yesterday, swearing at reporters when asked about Israel and Iran.

He said: "We basically have two countries that have been fighting for so long and so hard that they don't know what the f*** they're doing."
