Bernie Sanders has urged the 46th President to put more urgency into his re-election bid

President Biden has been issued a warning from within his own party ahead of the 2024 election.

Bernie Sanders, America’s leading progressive politician, said he will lose voters unless he takes action to address the concerns of voters, particularly working-class families.

He urged the 46th President to put more urgency into his re-election bid, or risk losing to Trump.

Speaking to the Guardian, he said: “We’ve got to see the White House move more aggressively on healthcare, on housing, on tax reform, on the high cost of prescription drugs.

“If we can get the president to move in that direction, he will win; if not, he’s going to lose.”

He continued: “We hope to make clear to the president and his team that they are not going to win this election unless they come up with a progressive agenda that speaks to the needs of the working class of this country.”

Whilst Biden faces no serious competitor in the Democratic primaries, his position is not guaranteed in his likely rematch against Trump.

A poll conducted by Monmouth University last month showed that Trump was beating Biden in approval ratings.

The survey showed that Biden’s approval rating has dropped to 34 per cent, the lowest since he began his administration.

In comparison, his predecessor Donald Trump scored more positively. 41 per cent said Trump was devoting enough time to key issues.

Sanders slammed Biden’s team for not putting a significant amount of effort into his re-election campaign: “They’re not their own best advertisers, they don’t do a particularly good job in explaining what Biden has accomplished.”

The progressive politician deeply fears a second Trump presidency coming to fruition. He said: “It will be the end of democracy, functional democracy.”

He predicted that Trump would make it hard for his opponents to vote against him: “He will make it harder for young people, people of colour, to participate in the political process.”

The Vermont senator has rallied millions of his young supporters to vote for Biden, however, he fears that if the Democratic party does not realign its focus to the working-class people, the younger generation will not turn up to the ballots on election day.

He also flagged Biden’s unwavering support for Israel’s military operation in Gaza as being a key issue for young voters.

Sanders urged Biden to distance himself to put distance between himself and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and “the horrific war he is waging against the Palestinian people.”
