Susan Hall kickstarted her City Hall bid 40 days before polls open

Susan Hall has launched her election campaign to topple Sadiq Khan as the Conservative Party's City Hall candidate warns the London Mayor is ignoring voters.

Hall's announcement came just days after Khan launched his third re-election bid alongside Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.

Hall, who was chosen as the Tory candidate last summer, will face off against Khan on May 2.

She launched her "Listening to Londoners" campaign in Uxbridge on Sunday and highlighted local opposition to Ulez.

Hall also criticised Khan over his record on crime and housing.

She said: "Sadiq Khan has ignored Londoners for eight years. If he wins a third term, that would be giving him permission to ignore us again.

“Crime has spiralled out of control after he shut police stations and failed to recruit police, rents have spiked because he has not built the affordable family homes Londoners deserve, and he has imposed his unfair Ulez expansion tax, hitting the lowest earners the hardest.

“I am listening to Londoners. My priorities are Londoners’ priorities and as Mayor, I will recruit more police, build more affordable homes, and scrap the Ulez expansion on day one.

“On May 2, let’s send Sadiq Khan a message and vote for change.”

Hall claimed Khan continues to ignore Londoners' concerns about crime, affordable homes and Ulez.

She also pledged to make London's streets safer, build more affordable homes and scrap the Ulez expansion if she defeats Khan.

Hall released a three-minute campaign launch video unveiling key pillars of her plan for the capital.

A recent Savanta survey conducted for Centre for London revealed Khan is 24-points ahead of Hall, with the Mayor registering 51 per cent of the vote.

Hall languishes behind in a distant second on 24 per cent, with Liberal Democrat candidate Rob Blackie in third on 10 per cent.

Khan formally launched his campaign on March 18, vowing to build 40,000 new council homes by the end of the decade.

The former Tooting MP also used his speech to warn that the mayoral election on May 2 is a “two-horse race” between himself and the Conservatives’ Susan Hall, who he claimed would “take our city backwards”.

He added: “As Mayor, I’ve also never stopped standing up for London’s values of openness, equality and inclusion.

"Striving to unite London’s communities, not divide them.

“Celebrating our diversity, not denigrating it. Because let me be clear: London’s diversity isn’t a weakness, it’s a formidable strength.

"And it makes London not only special, but the greatest city on earth.”
