A new YouGov MRP poll showed the Conservatives facing electoral oblivion with just 46 seats if an election were held tomorrow

Stephen Dixon confronted Conservative MP Andrew Griffith during a heated exchange about his party's catastrophic polling numbers on GB News Breakfast.

The interview came as a new YouGov MRP poll suggested the Conservatives would win just 46 seats if an election was held tomorrow.

Speaking about the damning poll, Griffith said: "I'm not overly surprised by it. I mean, we've seen a significant haemorrhaging, a collapse of Labour's support, which is unprecedented at this stage in the Parliament.

"And really, what it says to me is that people want a Government, I hope the next Conservative Government will be exactly that, with a credible plan to change things.

"Because if people keep voting and nothing changes, and you don’t get a Government that tackles some of the issues that really matter to people, then you see this level of support spinning off.

"So, we've got some work to do that's very clear. I'm out today talking about some of the honest truths we need to confront, but also about how we will take concrete steps to improve this country by repealing Labour's 300-page red tape unemployment bill that they're pushing through at the moment.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"That bill is just going to make it harder for our country to grow and harder for people currently on welfare to get into work.

"That's the sort of work I think people expect the opposition to do. And it doesn't surprise me at all that it will take time, after that devastating result for my party a year ago, for people to come back to us and for us to earn their trust."

GB News host Stephen Dixon said: "Without any policies. I mean, that's clearly what this indicates, doesn't it? 46 seats is what you'd end up with if this general election was held tomorrow.

"I know this is all up in the air because it isn’t going to happen, but 46 seats indicates that nobody knows what you stand for anymore."

He replied: "Well, I'd be very happy to tell you exactly what we stand for. The Conservative principles are unchanged. We believe in prosperity, the family, a strong defence, and law and order."

Stephen Dixon interjected: "Well, any policies would be nice."

Griffith continued: "I'll give you some policies as well. We will repeal Labour's family farm and family business death taxes. I'm announcing today that we will repeal the trade union aspects of the employment rights legislation.

"That legislation will reduce employment in our economy and stop us growing and stop our children from having the more prosperous lives and opportunities they deserve.

"We also have policies to start getting to grips with the crisis of immigration whether that's deferring indefinitely people's ability to stay here and live on benefits, or reverting to a net zero approach to immigration, where effectively no more people come in than leave our country.

"So we do have some policies. And I think there's a balance to be struck between having a number of policies that you can communicate and getting the airtime to be able to do that.

"As I say, I'm talking today particularly about business and how business is fundamental to growing our economy."

The YouGov MRP poll of 11,500 people showed Reform UK would become the largest party with 271 seats if an election were held tomorrow, though still short of the 326 needed for a majority.

A Reform UK spokesman said: "It's just under one year since the general election and we are already predicted to be the largest party if the election was held tomorrow."
