The new solar farm would power 300,000 homes and create more than a thousand jobs

Richard Tice has condemned plans for the UK's biggest solar farm to be built on farmland, declaring the proposal a "disgrace".

Speaking to GB News, the Deputy Leader of Reform UK joined protesters in Lincolnshire for a demonstration organised by his party and backed the "fantastic" land the farm would be built on.

The Tillbridge Solar project would cover around 3,000 acres (1,214 hectares) and is classified as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project.

Applicants for the farm have also claimed that the solar panels would have the strength to power 300,000 homes.

Revealing why Reform have organised the demonstration for locals, Mr Tice told GB News Yorkshire and Humberside reporter Anna Riley: "This is an absolute disgrace. Lincolnshire is planned to be covered by hundreds of square miles of solar panels.

"This is fantastic agricultural farmland for food security, and we need that. No one in Lincolnshire wants all of these solar panels."

Hitting out at the Labour Government, the Deputy Leader of Reform emphasised the "great con" of their energy policy.

He fumed: "The great lie, the great con has been exposed this week when energy bosses themselves admitted that even if the price of the gas goes to zero we'll face higher bills, they won't go down.

"And that is, of course, what the Secretary of State, Ed Miliband, was saying."

The protesters let out a roar of boos at the mention of Mr Miliband as Mr Tice responded: "There you are. You can see how unpopular he is. He's been saying the bills are going to go down, they're not, they're going up, and it's a disgrace.

"We don't want these solar panels, we don't want hundreds of miles of more pylons, and it's got to stop."

Outlining Reform UK policy on energy, Mr Tice told GB News that they will "rip up" contracts on future renewable energy sources, such as solar farms and wind turbines.

He stated: "Reform UK have said very clearly, we're going to rip up all of these new contracts from what they call AR7 from this year and beyond, whether it's for wind turbines, whether it's for solar farms, battery storage systems, they're on notice.

"I've told them very clearly, we don't view them as valid, they will be null and void. The investors and developers, invest your money in gas invested in nuclear. If you invest it in solar and in wind, then you're probably going to lose your money."

He concluded: "Labour got in, amongst many things, because people were sick of the Tories, but they also said the bills would come down £300. They've gone up by £300 so far and we've now got confirmation they're going up further.

"So they lied to us, it's a con, and we're saying to the British people we will stop this net stupid zero madness. And guess what? I think people like us, because that's why we're leading in the polls 10 to 15 per cent ahead of Labour."
