Today marks Reform UK's membership action day

Eight constituencies have been named as Reform UK's membership hotspots as the total tally soars past 260,000.

Nigel Farage is already putting pressure on Labour to release its membership tally amid speculation Sir Keir Starmer might have overseen a historic collapse.

Following the Labour Party's deputy leadership race, Mr Farage said: "As only 160,000 Labour Party members vote in the Deputy Leadership contest today, the question must now be…. How many members do they actually have?"

Sir Keir has witnessed a steady drop since taking over from Jeremy Corbyn in March 2020, dropping from 550,000 to just 309,000.

The latest official figures have put Labour's total at just over 333,000, some 70,000 ahead of Reform UK.

However, a well-placed Labour source reassured GB News that Reform still trails on paid-up members.

"We're definitely still ahead of Reform," they told The People's Channel.

A Labour Party spokesman also insisted that the party is not prepared to change its rules to release the data, instead insisting the public will become aware at the next scheduled date

Earlier this week, GB News's number-crunchers set May 7 as the date that Reform UK would likely overtake Labour's current total.

However, Reform UK has now revealed the eight hotspots witnessing a membership surge today.

Portsmouth North & South came out on top with 55 new members.

Meanwhile, Calderdale secured second place on 19.

Brentwood & Ongar, a key target in Essex, received a 14-strong boost.

A dozen new sign-ups have been recorded in Coventry South and Blackpool & Fleetwood today.

The other hotspots included Torbay, Normanton & Hemsworth and Hertsmere.

Questions around party membership also arose after the Green Party leapfrogged the Conservatives to become the third largest party on 130,000.

The Tories have witnessed a steady decline in recent years, with the Conservative Party's membership dropping to 123,000 members in July.

Liberal Democrat membership has also fallen from just under 118,000 in 2020 to 60,000, despite the party's best-ever General Election result last year.

A spokesman from Sir Ed Davey's party said: "In actual elections, more and more people are backing the Liberal Democrats."

Mr Farage has consistently praised the Liberal Democrats for utilising its members to campaign in key electoral contests.

GETTY

Speaking at Reform UK's party conference last year, the Clacton MP said: “It’s about building teams, it’s about having unity, and it’s through the branches that we get those structures.

“There is a template for this, and I never thought I’d say this, but we need to learn from the Liberal Democrats.

“Now, that doesn’t mean that you’ll see me cascading down waterfalls and I won’t behave in a way that I think is particularly stupid. The Liberal Democrats build branches and the Liberal Democrats win seats at district, council and unity level... The Liberal Democrats put literature through doors in their target areas.

“Despite the fact they haven’t got any policies at all, in fact the whole thing’s really rather vacuous, but they managed with a vote much lower than ours to win 72 seats in Parliament.

“So not only am I giving you the shares of the party, I’m actually giving you the responsibility for making this a success.”
