Reform is currently polling at seven per cent higher than Labour

Reform UK's local council victories are threatened by a hidden "curse" as the party faces pressure to deliver on the ground.

Nigel Farage's party has seen growing success, claiming 10 council seats in the last 33 days, building on its success in May when it claimed 677 seats.

Some 876 councillors now represent Reform UK, with the most recent coming in Addlestone, Surrey, as the Conservatives lost out to Mr Farage's party.

Incoming councillor in Addlestone, Scott Kelly, told GB News that he is "dedicated to turning words into action, and striving to achieve the best possible outcomes for our local area".

His success, among dozens of other Reform councillors, mirrors what is seen in the polls.

According to YouGov, Reform UK would claim 28 per cent of the vote, with Labour taking 21 per cent and the Tories at 18.

Pollster James Johnson explained that Reform's success on a local level is "significant" and proves that it is able "to translate [polling] into real votes".

Mr Johnson told the People's Channel: "They're becoming an option across the country for people who are frustrated with the mainstream, both nationally, but also in their local councils."

The pollster said that Reform UK have "not received a negative reaction" to their council work, "which is really important".

He said: "It suggests that there's no immediate backlash to the councils that have been appointed, which were elected back in May.

"I think that's really the main thing I'd say about this. In some ways, this is obviously a blessing because it shows their ability to make progress. But it's also got the potential to be a curse, because they really have to deliver in these roles."

The challenge Mr Farage's party faces is turning its local success into a national one.

Mr Johnson said: "Signs are at the moment that they understand they are doing a good job, but there are obviously a few years to run for people to really sort of demonstrate that at that local level.

"The big challenge for Reform nationally over the next few years is, can they persuade the public that they have a serious plan for Government and a serious ability to get things done?"

Reform has recently announced how they will deal with major issues on a national level, most notably unveiling their plan for mass deportations to bring an end to the UK's migrant crisis.

Other political parties will be building up strategies to derail the Reform momentum bandwagon.

Mr Johnson told GB News: "If you're another party, you're going to want to try and show that there's organisational chaos.

"You're going to want to try and show that their plan isn't working. And clearly that's going to be the plan of not just whatever the biggest opposing party is, but Reform becomes a sort of a local pinata for every other local party.

"Whether you're Lib Dem, Green, Conservative, Labour, go and hit because you probably don't want them in that local council position."

The pollster concluded that he would "much rather be in the situation of Reform" than other parties, as "it shows that they're getting real votes with real people".
