'French gendarmes laughing as they take our money... illegal migrants coming to take our money,' a furious Richard Tice said

Reform UK has vowed a "day of political reckoning" over Britain's migrant crisis is coming following a damning report on French police failures on the country's Channel coast.

Images emerged from Gravelines, France, on Wednesday showing an older man on crutches hobbling to a dinghy as legions of French officers looked on.

Armed border guards were seen hurling tear gas grenades and pursuing asylum seekers into the water - but under soon-to-be-scrapped laws, they were unable to accost them once in the sea.

Once in the Channel, even up to the ankles, police will touch neither them nor their dinghies, through fear of harming them - while police have told the Daily Mail that there are too many migrants, and too much shoreline on France's north coast, for them to be stopped.

Now, Reform's deputy leader Richard Tice has voiced his fury at the footage.

"The disgraceful invasion continues," he fumed. "These pictures infuriate Britain."

He continued: "French gendarmes laughing as they take our money... illegal migrants coming to take our money. A day of political reckoning is coming. Only Reform will stop the boats."

Tice's fury comes just days after French police were seen standing and watching asylum seekers as they attempted to board a small boat.

Asked why they would not intervene in clearly dangerous circumstances, one police officer told The Sun: "It's difficult."

The French guards, standing just feet away from the migrants, wore riot helmets with some carrying shields and pepper spray. They watched through binoculars as the family battled the currents.

A few hours later, GB News revealed that as many as 400 small boat migrants crossed the Channel, taking the total number of arrivals to more than 15,000 this year alone.

The Prime Minister has admitted he "wants to see more cooperation in northern France", telling reporters it is "an issue that I have raised and will raise again with President Macron".

Downing Street, meanwhile, has admitted that the situation in the English Channel is "deteriorating".

After the PM met with Macron in Canada, a No10 spokesman said: "Migration should be a key focus given the deteriorating situation in the Channel", adding that they should continue to work closely with other partners to find innovative ways to drive forward progress.”
