The Reform UK leader said he had "no interest" in the positions set out by the Tory candidates

GB News host Emily Carver claimed that "Nigel Farage is nothing like Jeremy Corbyn" in a heated clash with a political commentator after the Reform UK leader has been "alienated" by the Conservative Party.

All of the six candidates that are lined up to replace Rishi Sunak as leader of the Tory Party have rejected joining forces with Farage this week, with Mel Stride saying there will be "no deals" with him.

Speaking on GB News, Political Commentator Andy Williams said: "l think all election-winning machines, whether they're Labour or Conservative, have to be broad churches.

"I think Labour did a very good job at this election of showing that you have to be open-minded.

"The most centrist party wins every general election. That's the story of the last 40, 50 years.

"There is a significant but quite small and vocal constituency for Nigel Farage and his brand of politics.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"I would compare it in many ways to Jeremy Corbyn. Jeremy Corbyn was an incredibly popular Labour leader with a minority of people, but for a majority of people, he was an extremely alienating and polarising figure. I see Farage in the same light."

GB News host Emily Carver responded: "Nigel Farage would dispute that very strongly. He isn't anything like Jeremy Corbyn."

Tom Harwood said: "Different in terms of politics, different policy, but in the way that if I could think of three people who could fill an arena with their speaking in this country, it would be Jeremy Corbyn, Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson. But maybe none of them could win an election."

The political commentator agreed: "I think that's exactly right.

"You look at these sorts of people and they command passionate support, but not from a broad group of people. I just think the reality is that and this is the great challenge."

Speaking about those who have thrown their hat in the ring for the Tory leadership, Williams said: "I mean, with all due respect to Mel Stride, who's very professional, seemingly very good chap.

"Is he a Prime Minister? I don't think so. And I think if you look at these six candidates, you have to look very closely and think, could any of these people genuinely win a general election?

"I mean, people thought Keir Starmer didn't stand a chance. And there he is with a whopping great majority."

The six candidates standing for leader are Kemi Badenoch, James Cleverly, Dame Priti Patel, Robert Jenrick, Tom Tugendhat and Mel Stride.

Tom Tugendhat and Mel Stride have made it clear this week that the Reform UK leader would not be welcome in the Tories.

The others spoke ahead of the election and made it clear that Nigel Farage cannot join the party.

Nigel Farage does not seem bothered by the ban, and told GB News: ""It is of no interest to me whatsoever."
