The Deputy Prime Minister took up the PMQs mantle for Labour for a second week running

Nigel Farage was the target of Angela Rayner’s ire for a second week running at PMQs (Prime Minister’s Questions) with the Deputy Prime Minister taking aim at the Reform UK leader for supporting “billions more in unfunded tax cuts for the very richest”.

As she did last week, Rayner responded to a backbench Labour MP’s question about Farage.

This time it was Kanishka Narayan, MP for Vale of Glamorgan, who asked: “Just this week, the member for Clacton [Nigel Farage] put a singular, burning injustice first.

“The plight of overseas billionaires paying too much tax. Does the Deputy Prime Minister agree with his priority, or with me?

“Reform UK doing sweet deals with the super rich is a betrayal of the working people.”

Rayner backed her fellow Labour MP, saying: “My honourable friend is absolutely right. The mask has slipped again this week.“

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"The honourable member for Clacton demands billions more in unfunded tax cuts for the very richest while he marches through the lobbies in the House of Commons to vote against sick pay for the lowest earners.

“We know who pays for Reform tax breaks for overseas billionaires, tax hikes on working people and patients being charged to see their doctor.

“Labour won’t let that happen.”

As was the case last week, Farage was given no chance to respond and instead had to sit and watch the a tag team effort by the two Labour MPs as they delivered him a scolding.

Farage was mocked at last week’s PMQs with Labour MP Adam Thompson asking Rayner about the Reform head honcho's bid to cut wasteful Civil Service expenses.

The pair went on to suggest Farage lacked skills in mathematics, saying Reform’s sums “don’t add up”.

Thompson asked: "As a trained physics teacher and a former engineering lecturer, can I ask the Deputy Prime Minister what this government is doing to help people improve their math skills after they've left school?

"I came across an awful case the other day, a 61-year-old man who believes he counted up £7billion in government spending, but it was really only £27 million.

"What can we do to people like the leader of Reform UK, who evidently can't add up?”

Rayner responded: "He'll be pleased to know that we're investing£136million for skills boot camps, and I will be sure to send the details to the honourable member for Clacton [Farage].”

Rayner has stepped in for two PMQs sessions on the trot with Sir Keir Starmer out of the country.

He is currently in The Hague, Netherlands, for a NATO summit with world leaders like Donald Trump to address defence spending and the ongoing Middle East conflict.

In the PM’s absence, his deputy has taken the opportunity to target Reform UK, who continue to fly in the polls.

Farage will likely feel today’s jibe was manufactured, as he seemed to suggest last week during his GB News show.

Last week, he praised her performance, saying: "She was in charge. She showed some pretty hard, left-wing views on the damage they are doing to private education.

"While she has her brief, she is able to deliver her statement without looking down all the time unlike Starmer and Rachel Reeves."
