The former Culture Secretary recently announced her defection from the Conservatives to Reform UK

Nadine Dorries has told GB News that British politics is at a "dangerous point in history" as she warned of further splits in both the Conservative and Labour parties.

Speaking at the Reform UK conference following her defection from the Tories, Ms Dorries told GB News Political Correspondent Katherine Forster that Reform is the "party of the moment".

Speaking at Reform's party conference in Birmingham, the former Culture Secretary declared Labour and the Conservatives are "falling apart".

She stated: "The reason why Labour are falling apart, the reason why the Conservative Party fell apart is because when they come to be tested, as we saw recently, with Keir Starmer having to make a number of U-turns because his MPs won't support him.

"As we saw in the Conservative Party, divided parties don't win elections. What is important is saving our country, and the only way we can do that is with a party which is united behind its leader."

Questioned by Katherine on where she believes the Tories "went wrong", Ms Dorries explained: "The single point where it went wrong was when Boris Johnson was removed as Prime Minister.

"And I think if a party removes an election-winning Prime Minister once, Margaret Thatcher, it can be seen as a big mistake.

"When they do it twice and then elect duds in their place, and then elect Kemi Badenoch, who hasn't announced a policy of any substance in the 12 months that she's been leader, you kind of realise that if a party can't function itself, it can't run the country."

Predicting the Labour Government will now "split in two" following Angela Rayner's departure, the new Reform UK member told GB News: "I think that what we're seeing now with the Labour Party, which is falling apart, it will split into two.

"Angela Rayner will become part of the far-left movement with Jeremy Corbyn, pro-Gaza independence probably, unite with Polanski from the Greens, he's a left-wing firebrand. We're going to see a split in the Labour Party.

"We've had that split in the Conservative Party and believe me, no one knows better than I do, we've had that split and those divisions in the Conservative Party for a very long time."

Highlighting how politics has "moved on" from the two-party system with the rise of Reform, Ms Dorries made clear: "Politics has moved on, thanks partly to GB News, people are better informed. People know more about what's going on. They're hearing the other side of the story.

"Politics has very much moved on now, and the Conservative Party hasn't, and neither has Labour. I think both parties have shown that when they are tested, when they are brought to Government, they just can't do it. They can't function as governing parties in any way which is effective, and they can't deliver."

She added: "So that's why I'm with Reform now, because I think we're at a very dangerous point in our history. When you're paying 5.7 per cent interest on your debt, the message is very clear. The global economic community think as a country, a Government cannot manage your public finances and cannot manage public spending.

"This is a road that leads to a bad place, and I feel it now, both Nigel Farage and Reform are the party of the moment."

Pressed by Katherine on whether she has "abandoned Boris Johnson" by defecting, Ms Dorries hit back: "Boris and I are good friends. The problem with the Conservative Party is they needed Boris Johnson at the last election and they blocked him. They kept him out.

"And a party that behaves in that way, that is not doing what is the right thing to do for the party and the country, they could have beaten Labour if they'd had Boris Johnson, and a party that behaves in that way, there's something fundamentally and seriously wrong.

"Boris Johnson has not been welcomed back into the Conservative Party since. The fact that we lost so badly to Labour was purely as a result of Conservative MPs removing an election-winning Prime Minister. Boris is always going to be loyal to the Conservative Party, he will have to be, he's a former Prime Minister. I'm not.

"I've decided that now is the time for me to come to the aid of the Reform Party and to pledge the loyalty I pledged to Boris and to the Conservatives to Reform, because there is a job to do. And Reform are the only party with answers to some of the really serious problems we're facing, whether it's law and order, illegal migration, that they've got serious answers to serious problems no one else has."
