Kemi Badenoch said that "death threats have intensified" since Dorries released her book

Former MP Nadine Dorries has launched a scathing attack on Secretary of State for Business and Trade Kemi Badenoch and said she is "obsessed."

This comes after Badenoch said that "death threats have intensified" since Dorries released her book The Plot, which details the downfall of Boris Johnson.

Badenoch said: "If you get the unhelpful coalition of mental health issues and propensity to violence, then you read the Nadine Dorries conspiracy theory and decide you want to kill someone, it’s very, very nasty."

Speaking to Camilla Tominey on GB News Dorries responded: "She is slightly obsessed."

Camilla said: "She might say that you are obsessed with her relationship with Michael Gove."

Dorries said: "I think that we are all a bit obsessed with her relationship with Michael Gove aren't we? Given that he has been her sponsor and her mentor."

Camilla interjected: "She says that they have fallen out." Dorries said: "Yeah, intriguing reasons as to why which I think that we will all find out about.

"Dougie Smith is the husband of one of Kemi's best friends. He has also been a mentor of Kemi Badenoch's.

"His wife Munira wrote all her speeches, she is very much the product of Dougie and Munira. "

In her book, Dorries wrote that the same people who deposed Mr Johnson are now working to install Ms Badenoch as the new leader.

Responding to Dorries’ claim that she is a puppet for powerful men, Badenoch said: “If there’s somebody who is doing that, wouldn’t it be the person who goes to bed with me every night and pays for my home and so on?

"[My husband] Hamish is a huge influence on how I do things. Which I think is right, because this job affects his life.”

Dorries also discussed the rumours that Boris Johnson could be returning to parliament as the Vice Chair of the Conservative Party.

She explained: "It is bizarre. I saw a story, in The Sun I think, today which says that there is a plot to bring Suella [Braverman] in and have Boris as the Tory party vice chair.

"I almost spat out my drink as I read it. It is just nonsense. Why would anybody think that Boris Johnson wants to come back?"

She added that the former PM would be likely to return to the Tory Party "one day" but claimed that it would not be as a vice chair.

"The idea that he would come back as vice chair of the party is for the birds. One day, in Boris's own words, can we envisage a Conservative Party of the future without him playing a major key role?

"Absolutely not, it is unthinkable. This is the winner, he is the winner. Actually, when you look at what has happened to the Conservative Party since they removed him, it has sunk faster than a stone."
