In pursuit of 'open door policies' the continent's states have been spun into a total frenzy, the GB News presenter claimed

Nigel Farage blasted Europe over its "total panic" in the face of "lunatic immigration policies" across the continent.

Speaking on his show, the GB News presenter said states across the continent were "terrified" of centre-right political parties who were driving the momentum to reform the European Convention for Human Rights (ECHR).

On Wednesday, European ministers - including those from the UK - backed a new approach to reform the ECHR in an attempt to make it easier to deport illegal migrants.

In the UK, however, the Conservatives and Reform have gone one further, pushing for the total departure from the international treaty.

Earlier in the week, the Reform leader met with the leader of France's National Rally Jordan Bardella to discuss the future of Anglo-French relations regarding migration and stopping the small boats.

Speaking on the People's Channel, Mr Farage said: "Not just in Britain, but across the rest of Europe, Governments are in total panic.

"They have pursued open door immigration policies, some of them, like Sweden, to an absolutely lunatic degree."

He continued: "And of course, much of was this encouraged, if you remember, by the German Chancellor of the time, Angela Merkel.

"What the European leaders are now saying is, Sorry for wrecking your cities and ruining your lives.

"We're now going to do something about it. And it seems the British Labour Government is on the same track."

Today, the Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary David Lammy went to Strasbourg to discuss the ECHR and the way it has been interpreted by the European court.

"At the heart of this is Article Three of the Convention, which is about sending people back to countries where they could be tortured," the GB News star continued.

He added: “Perhaps more controversially is Article Eight, the right to a family life. And we know British judges have said, well, you know, the guy's got a cat, he has to stay.

“In terms of how much that can shift and change, from what I can make of it 27 countries were in favour of a change of interpretation, but 18 countries weren't.

“This has got nowhere today. Basically, Governments across Europe are terrified of new centre-right parties. That’s what this is all about."

"Isn’t this a bit like the debate around the EU: every single Government from 1974, in every single election promised they’d reform the Common Agricultural Policy. They never, ever did.

"The logic with this would be if it’s unreformable, we have to decide to stay or leave."

But Labour has refused to bow to demands to withdraw from the treaty, calling for modifications to the documents and its implementation across British courts.

Ahead of Wednesday's meeting, Sir Keir Starmer argued that immediate changes were necessary to dampen "the forces of hate and division" across the continent.

Still, officials remained conservative with their approach, with the head of the Council of Europe Alain Berset refusing to estimate "what exactly will happen" by the time May rolls around.

Next spring, European leaders and officials will once again congregate at a summit.
