Britain is less safe because of the Government's inability to get to grips with the small boats crisis, a leading figure in Donald Trump's administration has told GB News.

Sarah Rogers, the US Government's Under-Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy, also said the UK's "values" were changing because of a lack of control over the numbers of migrants crossing the Channel.

Small boat crossings into the UK from northern France are already over 40,000 so far this year.

In an interview with the People's Channel, Ms Rogers said: "Nobody's safe in the country if just anyone can walk in.

"And I would also add what every Brit and every American these days, unfortunately, intuitively knows, which is that when you change the people who live in the country, the country's values change too.

"The country's politics change too. The country's institutions change too."

She added: "We have to care who comes into the country. We have to care who constitutes the country, because otherwise, the foundational freedoms that we all staked out hundreds of years ago are not going to be long for this world."

Last week, it was announced French police will now intercept dinghies at sea in an attempt to stop asylum seekers reaching Britain's shores after mounting pressure from Prime Minister Keir Starmer for President Emmanuel Macron to do more to prevent the perilous journeys.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood also recently unveiled sweeping reforms to the asylum system in a bid to deter foreigners, including making refugee statuses temporary.
