The UK terrorism threat level was raised to 'severe' by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre on Thursday, meaning a terror attack is 'highly likely'

A terrorism expert has launched a scathing attack on Sir Keir Starmer and the Labour Government for their delay in raising the terror threat level, accusing him of "too much talk".

Speaking to GB News, Roger Macmillan declared Britons are "fed up" with the Government "not taking action" to protect the country's Jewish community.

Following the terror attack in Golders Green on Wednesday, the UK terrorism threat level was raised to "severe" by the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre on Thursday.

Declaring a "severe" level of threat means they believe a UK terror attack is "highly likely" within the next six months.

Reacting to the decision, Mr Macmillan said there has been an "increased threat" to the Persian, British and Jewish communities since 2022.

He told GB News: "Over the last few years, I think last year, for example, there was something like 3,700 different antisemitic attacks in the UK alone.

"And what we're seeing now is an escalation of this, and the cumulative effect of that is for the security services to have raised the threat level to severe."

Questioned by host Dawn Neesom why the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre has decided now to raise the threat level, Mr Macmillan admitted there has been "too much talk" and not enough action on the threat facing the Jewish community.

He said: "There has been, quite frankly, too much talk and hand-wringing and thoughts and prayers from politicians, that's no good anymore.

"People are now fed up, the dial has been turned. We are now seeing direct attacks on the Jewish community and the Government has not taken action."

Criticising the delay further, Mr Macmillan added: "Even just recently, we have heard that Keir Starmer has promised to bring forward legislation into the new parliament sometime in July.

"Why do we have to wait for so long? Why does Sir Mark Rowley and his phenomenal police force have to wait so long to get the money, the resources and the support they so desperately need to?"

The terrorism expert stressed that the security concerns of the country are for "all people", not just the Jewish community.

He explained: "This is about security for all people in this country, regardless of race, colour, creed, religion or whatever.

"And we cannot have bands of people, Islamists, Lone Wolf, or ERW moving around and taking the law into their own hands. These are the groups who are perpetrating these threats.

"We must all be careful, and they will all face the the full force of the law once they can."

Questioned by Dawn Neesom on why he believes people in Britain are "frightened" to talk about radical Islam in this country, Mr Macmillan said people are worried about being "cancelled" if they speak out.

He concluded: "I think it's a it's a general scourge. If you mention the radical Islam or the political Islam, you feel you're going to get shut down, you're going to get canceled, you're going to get, 'oh, we can't possibly have this chat because it is dangerous', but it is a significant threat.

"The United Arab Emirates, a long ally of the United Kingdom, is now preventing its students from attending universities in the UK due to the fear of radicalisation. So it's not just in the UK.

"Other countries, strong Muslim countries, our allies, are also feeling this fear too, and if they're doing something about it, we should be too."
