Reform UK has come on leaps and bounds in recent months

Nigel Farage has one major issue in his bid to become Prime Minister, Boris Johnson’s former chief adviser Dominic Cummings has told GB News reporter Steven Edginton.

Reform UK has come on leaps and bounds in recent months, winning a by-election in Runcorn and Helsby and a plethora of local councils.

The party is also performing strongly in the polls on a consistent basis which has led many to suggest Farage has a credible chance of winning the keys to Number 10.

Cummings, who is among those to have talked up Farage’s chances, appeared to pour some cold water on those prospects in his sit-down with Steve.

“The problem Farage has in general is one you see across the West at the moment”, he said.

“As the old system fails, Farage is, in a sense, the same as all the other parties.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

“They form their views in the ‘90s and ‘2000s. It’s very hard for them to adjust to a world where the truths and conventional ideas of that time are broken down.

“That’s one of the reasons you see Reform caught in a lot of these discussions [about mass deportations], it’s hard to adapt.”

Cummings also thinks Farage has not surrounded himself with the biggest treasure trove of talent British politics has to offer.

Despite having five MPs, a major success for a relatively new party, the Reform UK leader is repeatedly targeted by Tory and Labour figures as being a one-man band.

Cummings said: “This is not to insult them, but it’s obvious Reform has not embarked on a major outreach of talent which I think is needed.

“This country needs a political project which openly says, ‘we are replacing the elites. There are thousands of people in Whitehall who have jobs which shouldn’t exist. Those jobs will cease to exist, the people will be removed and we will change how the institutions work’.

“That has to be at the heart of a serious political project. It’s crazy to think you can change the institutions if you have the same calibre of people.

“You see it very clearly in the Civil Service, this nightmare thing where a lot of incredibly capable people join in their early 20s but by the time they’re 40, you have an inverse talent ratchet.

“They are almost all gone. They look at their bosses and think ‘I don’t want to become like them’. Able people have choices, so they go off and do other things while the absolute worst people get promoted.”

Farage has grappled with upheaval in recent days with Zia Yusuf resigning from his post as party chairman before rejoining the party in a different capacity.

Former MEP David Bull has taken the reins and quickly faced criticism for claiming immigration is the ‘lifeblood’ of Britain despite the party’s hardline migrant crisis position.

Reform continues to ride the crest of the wave with many Britons appearing unbothered by the party civil war as it consistently hovers around 30 points in all polling.
