Voters will be hitting the polls in seven key by-elections on Thursday

Seven by-elections are up for grabs across the country tomorrow as a number of tight electoral battles will give major parties an understanding of where they sit in the specific constituency.

There are a number of defences in the mix, including among Labour, Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.

The major parties will be keeping a keen eye on the elections, particularly Reform UK, who will be keen to see whether their poll-topping exploits can translate to tangible success at the ballot box.

GB News has taken a look at the seats up for grabs.

Dunster (Somerset)

The Somerset Council by-election for Dunster will be contested by four candidates in a bid to replace Christine Lawrence.

Serving as a Conservative Councillor for 24 years, Ms Lawrence stepped down due to ill health having served Dunster and 14 other West Somerset parishes.

Ms Lawrence, a trained nurse, retired completely and triggered the by-election.

The Conservatives were quick to select a candidate with James Bellamy picked last month.

Mr Bellamy has worked in kitchens across West Somerset over the years and told the West Somerset Free Press he considers the area to be "my home".

While it will be the first election for Reform UK's Jonathan Rollason and Liberal Democrats' Cara Strom, it will be Terry Ledlie's sixth attempt to get onto a local council for the Labour Party.

  • James Bellamy (Conservatives)
  • Terry Ledlie (Labour)

Five people are vying to take his place as voters head to the polls.

Mr Cottle was regarded as a dedicated community man who served with "distinction for many years".

One councillor said it was a "terrible shock to lose Nick so soon".
