Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has thrown his weight behind a new independent campaign focused on defending British sovereignty, accusing Labour of “systematic betrayal” of the Brexit vote in 2016.
The newly launched Stand for Our Sovereignty campaign is sounding the alarm that Labour is quietly handing powers back to Brussels and foreign governments undermining British sovereignty.
Speaking exclusively to GB News, Johnson said: “Count on me as a passionate supporter of this campaign.
"The British people voted to be a sovereign nation – and yet they are being systematically betrayed.”
The former Prime Minister claimed Labour had “capitulated to the French on fish” just as Brexit was due to deliver full control over British waters for the first time since the 1970s.
In a blistering attack on Sir Keir Starmer, Johnson accused the Labour leader of selling out British Overseas Territories and dragging the UK back into the EU via the backdoor.
“Labour has done an insane deal with Mauritius – paying them £30billion to steal the Chagos Islands, even though they belong to this country,” he said.
“They’ve sold out our interest in Gibraltar so that Spanish border guards will demand Britons – including our troops – show passports to enter UK sovereign territory.”
Johnson fumed: “Starmer and Labour have allowed Britain to be sucked back into the tractor beam of Brussels – so we now accept EU rules on food and other standards.

"It’s totally undemocratic. Britain is a great country. We should not be subjected to rules over which we have no control.”
In a further attack, Johnson accused Labour’s Attorney General, Lord Hermer and the Prime Minister of being “psychologically addicted to betraying this country’s national interest”.
“I hope GB News and its growing audience can help rally the resistance,” he added.
The campaign, aimed at defending British sovereignty, is building momentum with seven groups signed up so far, with talks ongoing with other organisations.
A new social media campaign featuring short videos from high profile figures is being worked on, with the public also being invited to submit their own clips.

Organisers say more resources are needed ahead of major announcements expected in the weeks and months to come.
Reacting to Johnson’s support for the campaign, Leigh Evans, Chairman of the Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIBUK.org), whose group is leading the initiative alongside other organisations, said: “Speaking for CIBUK and Brexit Facts4EU, we’re delighted Boris has been so emphatic in his fulsome support for the ‘Stand for Our Sovereignty’ campaign.
"It’s clear from the huge response we’ve had that all the issues he highlights in his inimitable style are exactly those which are worrying people.
“And this is the former Prime Minister who led the way in securing the UK’s departure from the EU.
“To have Boris’s wholehearted support raises the profile of all these issues even more and gives a real boost to us, as well as the teams at the UK Fisheries Campaign, European Foundation, Conservative Post & Reformer, GB-PAC, and GDF.”

The campaign is expecting a surge in support today and are prepared to manage the increase in supporters.
The campaign, which focuses on sovereignty has so far seen over 3,300 members register their support since last week alone.
If sign-ups continue to grow at this rate, the campaign are confident they will have the resources in place to take the fight to the government to protect British sovereignty.
Reacting to the launch of the campaign to protect British sovereignty, which is critical of Labour’s deals on the Chagos Islands and Gibraltar, Barry Gardiner MP, said: “Britain’s sovereignty is not eroded by upholding international law.

“On fishing the UK has just exercised its sovereignty to create 41 new marine protected areas which will exclude the EU vessels from damaging bottom trawling.”
Gardiner added: “Whilst I understand the desire some have to create political wedge issues, I have always considered that informed debate was more effective than pretending a problem exists that clearly does not.”
