Greater Lincolnshire Mayor Dame Andrea Jenkyns has launched a scathing attack on Sir Keir Starmer, accusing the Prime Minister of being a "liar".
In a speech on immigration last month, Starmer claimed Britain risked becoming an "island of strangers", with many comparing the language to former Conservative MP Enoch Powell.
However, the Prime Minister has admitted he now "deeply regrets" the remark, telling The Observer: "I wouldn’t have used those words if I had known they were, or even would be interpreted as an echo of Powell.
"I had no idea and my speechwriters didn’t know either. But that particular phrase, no, it wasn’t right. I’ll give you the honest truth: I deeply regret using it."

Delivering her verdict on Starmer's U-turn, the Reform UK Mayor told GB News that he is a "globalist", and made the statement to simply "appeal to voters".
Jenkyns stated: "I think it tells us that he's been lying, actually, because he's a lawyer, he's used to reading speeches, he is used to reading tons of papers.
"And so clearly, his speechwriters put this speech together to stop voters coming across to Reform from the Labour Party, to appeal to them and to stop them haemorrhaging votes."
Recalling working with Starmer in Parliament in 2015, Jenkyns said Starmer is a "globalist" who "doesn't believe in sovereignty".
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
Jenkyns recalled: "I was in Parliament with him from 2015 and he is a globalist, we all know it. He doesn't believe in sovereignty, the nation state.
"When I was in Parliament with him, he tried every trick in the book, working with the speaker, Bercow, to try and stop Brexit and as soon as he's got in power, he's pushed for closer alignment.
"And so he's backtracked because quite frankly, he doesn't believe in controlling illegal migration."
Noting Starmer's continued efforts to "appeal to voters" despite the U-turn, Jenkyns said that the Prime Minister is "not being his true self", reiterating his "globalist" values.
Jenkyns told GB News that Keir Starmer has 'never had the right judgement'

She told GB News: "If you remember during the election, I think he said whatever was necessary to try and win, and he conned the voters. Look how all the Labour literature had the Union flag on there, he is a globalist, that's not him.
"He'd want the EU flag on there, and so and now he's in power, I think he's trying to appeal to voters, but that's not his true self. So he's got this internal wrangling and this is why he's messing up."
She concluded: "I don't think he's ever had the right judgement. Even when he was a backbench MP, I can't think of one time when I've ever thought that he's got the right judgement and is in tune with the people."
