There needs to be a root and branch shake-up of our woke police to bring law and order back to lawless Britain, says Dan Wootton

A breakdown in the fabric of British society is seeing our streets become lawless.

Horror crimes being shrugged off by woke police forces more intent on patrolling what we post on Twitter, taking the knee with BLM demonstrators or dancing with eco-terrorists than tracking down the gangs of thugs who regularly mug us on the streets and burgle our homes.

We see this new breed of policing every day, thanks to social media…

Well today, a bombshell report has confirmed what I’ve been telling for many months.

British policing has “lost its way”, with the public rightly believing that forces have all but given up on crimes such as burglary, which have effectively become decriminalised.

The stats back that up.

Only 3.5 per cent of reported residential burglaries, 6.3 per cent of reported robberies and 4.1 per cent of reported thefts were solved in the year to March.

It’s an astonishing indictment.

And the damning verdict comes from a man who knows what our police should be doing.

The former detective chief inspector David Spencer, now head of crime and justice at the Policy Exchange think-tank, revealed…

“The detection rates are so low that a lot of the public feel like burglary and robbery have been decriminalised because the chances of getting caught are so low now. That cannot be right.”

Then Spencer added…

“If the past few years have shown us anything, it is that British policing has lost its way. An overhaul of police leadership is needed which is capable of delivering for the public.”

Among the proposals, which should be adopted by the next Prime Minister as the start of a major push to increase law and order, is a call for police officers to be banned from taking part in political activities.

The report argued that…

Acts that may be intended as a show of solidarity against discrimination, such as “taking the knee” or an officer wearing a badge on their uniform, can easily be interpreted by others as an expression of a partisan political view. To maintain the public’s confidence that police officers are acting with impartiality, such acts must always be avoided by police officers and their leaders.

That’s common sense to me and must immediately be adopted.

Boris Johnson focussed on law and order today on his farewell tour.

But sadly it hasn’t been enough.

There is a race to reach the Conservative commitment to have 20,000 new cops hired by March.

At tonight's Conservative Party hustings, Truss indicated she's going to take a tougher line.

But, as today’s report shows, there needs to be a root and branch shake-up of our woke police to bring law and order back to the streets of Lawless Britain.
