POLL: Is Shabana Mahmood the right person to be Home Secretary?

Shabana Mahmood has recently taken over as Home Secretary in the mini-reshuffle last month.

Despite continuing the mission to stop the boats, more than 36,000 people have made the journey so far this year, around a third higher than at the same point in 2024.

She has also come under fire from Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch over her handling of the ban of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from an Aston Villa match.

Mrs Badenoch said the Home Secretary has “serious questions to answer” about why her department did “nothing” to avert the ban.

Ms Mahmood posted on X: “Antisemitism is a stain on our society that shames us all.

“Every football fan, whoever they are, should be able to watch their team in safety. This Government is doing everything in our power to ensure all fans can safely attend the game.”
