'I think this is absolutely insane'

Yvette Cooper has just made the illegal migrant crisis worse, she’s set to fast-track Gazans and refugee students.

She said: "I can confirm that the Home Office has put systems in place to issue expedited visas, with biometric checks conducted prior to arrival for children and their immediate family members.

"The same applies to all refugee scholars, and the process is now underway for the next group of students from Gaza who have been awarded fully funded scholarships at UK universities, so they can start their studies this autumn."

But look at the latest polling from May this year it showed that 37 per cent of Gazans support Hamas, and 25 per cent support Fatah, the Palestinian nationalist and social democratic party. And that’s putting it mildly.

Meanwhile, Ms Cooper also announced plans to allow refugees to work.

Later this year, the Government will set out a permanent framework for refugee students to study in the UK, helping talented young people fleeing war and persecution find a better future, alongside capped and managed ways for refugees to work here.

I think this is absolutely insane. One positive she did announce was making it harder for illegal migrants to bring their families over refugees will now have to apply through the standard family scheme, which requires a joint income of at least £29,000 per year for British citizens.

But all of this comes amid a worrying backdrop. Yesterday, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson revealed that the Labour Government believes the rights of people who have illegally entered Britain can outweigh the rights of concerned local residents.

We saw evidence of this again today: a number of asylum seekers have been given new £300,000 townhouses with en-suite bathrooms, electric vehicle charging points, and underfloor heating.

Meanwhile, there are serious questions over heavy-handed policing of local protests. This weekend, police pepper-sprayed women and children protesting in Canary Wharf and arrested a local woman, reportedly a Reform member, who hung a flag from the Civic Centre in Epping.

The police said the woman was arrested on suspicion of breaching a Section 14 order, which set limits on where the protest could take place.

But many point out that we didn’t see similar arrests or pepper-spraying of women and children during other protests.

Pro-Palestine demonstrators have been allowed to bring parts of central London, including a train station, to a standstill.

There was even vandalism at Cambridge University, a painting was slashed and so far, no arrests.

So why are we making it easier for more refugees and students to enter?

Why are asylum seekers being given brand-new luxury homes? And why are the rights of non-Brits being prioritised over those of actual British residents?
