We need protection from religious zealots - not the other way round, writes the former editor of The Sun

Any time now, the Government, clearly with nothing better to do except hiring welders for clapped-out warships, will announce they are appointing an Anti-Muslim hostility tsar. How bizarre and how wrong.

Isn’t the reality that we need to be protected from the actions of some followers of Islam? Do excuse me if I point out some facts; that the 7/7 slaughters, the Manchester Arena bombing and the recent murders at the Manchester mosque were not the actions of those that hated Muslims but the actions of those that loved Muslims, but hated everybody else- especially Jews.

Regrettably, I have only scratched the surface of the horrors that Muslims have imposed on the world over the decades. And yet Starmer believes that the way to create better ‘’community cohesion’’ is to equate the hostility shown by Islamists with a gun and bomb, to those members of the public who express their fear on social media.

How will the new tsar view my words in this article, for instance? Will the tsar say it’s free speech and he’s entitled to his view that my appointment is wrong or that Muslims need to be protected from words like this? And in the event that the old tsar feels aggrieved, what on earth will they do about it?

Will I end up in Ian Huntley’s old cell? The story of the anti-Muslim hostility tsar was first written last Friday by Tim Shipman, the political editor of The Spectator, who was lured away from the Sunday Times.

He wrote that it was due to be confirmed today, but although the government did issue a 47-page paper containing a load of old waffle about ‘’patriotic renewal’’ of communities and calling for integration, the tsar wasn’t mentioned. Could they be having cold feet?

The reality is that Starmer has to keep the Muslims on side, otherwise they will all be voting Green (as they did at Gorton and Denton), but on the other side of the balance sheet is that the white community could be so enraged it will lead to another reason to vote Reform.

So, could it be that Starmer has got cold feet? Nothing new there. Or will he announce it alongside the dreaded definition of Islamophobia at a later date?

If we are to look at 'anti' appointments, surely the first must be the anti-Jew hostility tsar. Muslims, of which there are over four million in the UK, don’t like Jews, of which there are only 250,000 here.

Every time Israel wipes the floor with the Muslim nations across the Middle East, all of whom have as their No. 1 policy the eradication of Israel, Jews in Britain are threatened.

To the point where, quite disgracefully, an Israeli football team couldn’t even play in a tournament at Aston Villa as police couldn’t guarantee their Jewish fans' safety from angry local Muslims. How bad was that? What would the tsar say then?

Nothing to do with me, squire. So, it’s no surprise that the amount of antisemitic hatred has gone off the scale and that Jews are frightened for their lives while simply walking down their local high street.

And how would the tsar feel about the Batley Grammar school teacher, who is still in hiding today after five years, after he shared a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed?

The Muslims don’t like that, but why should we, the majority, have to accept their religious beliefs over and above our laws?

They may not like it, but there are a lot of things I don’t like that I have to accept. The idea that a teacher is forced from his job, forced to change his name and his family forced from their council flat, because a cartoon is shown, is quite wrong.

And none of the lickspittle Labour leaders in the area said a damned word about it for fear of being thrown out in the local elections. We don’t need such a tsar but do need protection from religious zealots.
