How often do you hear that the era of mass migration is just a part of the modern globalised world?

Donald Trump has yet again done what he does best. He has proved we do not need to submit to managed decline.

How often do you hear that the era of mass migration is just a part of the modern globalised world?

How often do you hear people accuse you of being racist simply because you believe nation states should defend their borders?

Well, President Trump has torn all of this up.

It began with large-scale deportations which has led to a 94 per cent drop in southern border crossings, year on year.

The deportation policy has been so successful, it’s almost as if we’ve all forgotten how much of a crisis the southern border was.

And now we see the next step of travel bans in the interest of national security.

Well, let’s just imagine for a moment that we did the same here in the UK.

What would this look like?

Well, to begin with we would need to do the following three things:

One: leave the European Court of Human Rights. The court’s interpretation of the convention is so wide that it makes the exercise of democratic power when it comes to deporting illegal migrants and foreign criminals practically impossible.

Two: Withdraw from the Refugee Convention. Similarly, the way the convention defines a refugee is so broad that it applies to an estimated 750 million people across the world according to the Centre for Policy Studies. That’s why our asylum acceptance rate is nearly 100% for countries like Afghanistan and Sudan.

Three: Drastically reform the Human Rights Act which has served as a proxy for the ECHR in our domestic courts and allowed our judges to block deportations.

But then what about creating a Trump style travel ban?

Well, thankfully, Director at the Centre for Migration Control Rob Bates who was on this very show yesterday has done all the work for us.

Having aggregated violent crime, sexual crime, illegal entries and propensity to claim benefits once in the UK, this is what could be the UK’s very own list of countries to impose travel restrictions on: Albania, Iran, Afghanistan, Iraq, Eritrea, Sudan, Congo, Syria, Somalia, Moldova, Namibia and Vietnam.

So there you have it. This government could do what Trump has done. It could say no to managed decline, it could say no to open borders and it could say no to the international liberal consensus that has manifestly failed. But will it?
