I feel desperately sorry for the people of Folkestone and Hythe. They are represented by Labour MP Tony Vaughan – a former immigration lawyer who is massively against the Shabana Mahmood crackdown on failed asylum seekers.
For me, the good news is that now Mr Vaughan has come out against the only sensible policies I’ve heard from Labour in decades (and even they may not work), he will discover, due to his stance, his political career will end when he comes up for election in 2029. Hoo-bloody-ray.
You would have thought before publicly stating his view, he would have taken a geography lesson and discovered Folkestone is only 7.9miles down the road from Dover, the official landing point of tens of thousands of illegal Channel migrants over the years.
Can you imagine how the voters of Folkestone felt listening to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme this morning as their elected representative said the Mahmood plan encouraged ‘’the same culture of divisiveness that sees racism and abuse growing in our communities’’.
Every night, year after year, the angry residents of Folkestone have to watch the nightly news showing boatloads of economic migrants making their way ashore.
But instead of their fury being represented by their MP, they have to listen to this Cambridge-educated lawyer explaining why this is all rather good for them. Sick-making.
Further, in this same BBC interview, he said the idea of reviewing the status of refugees every few years would ‘’divert huge amounts of resources away from making our asylum system work’’.
So, this chump, who was only elected last year because Reform took 10,000 votes from the Tories, thinks that these migrants aren’t already costing us billions. How could the Mahmood proposals be more expensive than what is happening right now?
Vaughan has clearly put to the back of his mind that there have been huge local protests between 2020 and September this year at the housing of 328 male migrants at Napier barracks in Folkestone.
Does he honestly believe that with Dover as your neighbour and with your constituency dominated by an older white community still furious at Napier Barracks being home to migrants for all those times, that anybody will ever vote for you again?

You have given a majority of your constituents a V-sign. Fortunately, you have signed your own death warrant.
The reason Vaughan voted the way he did lies in the fact that his mum came from the Philippines in the 1970s. She trained as a nurse and worked damned hard here. Dad was an engineer, and they met in London. Vaughan praises them for their work ethic.
Many of today’s migrants have not got their mum’s work ethic, and you would have thought he would be in favour of the Mahmood plan, as a huge number are on benefits. Anyway, we don’t need to worry too much about Vaughan as he will be thrown out at the next General Election.
There will similarly be issues among many Labour MPs. The ones I will enjoy watching dance on a hatpin will be those in Muslim-dominated constituencies. They won’t know what to say.
If they support Mahmood, the Muslim voters will vote against them next time, as they will want to bring in their chums and families from Pakistan and the like.
If they come out against Mahmood, the white residents will vote against them next time. I will enjoy their torment.
My bet is that come the day, most Labour MPs will fall in line as they know that to do anything else in a country with an 80 per cent white population means they will be thrown out.
For Tony Vaughan, it’s the end of the road. I will enjoy his demise.
