Sir Keir Starmer lied. Rachel Reeves lied. The whole bloody lot of them lied. The Labour leadership have deceived the public in the most disgraceful manner.
They have spun a web of lies about the state of our economy - in a time of global economic instability, we still have the fastest growth rate in the G7, low unemployment and inflation are back under control. These lies now enable them to award their union paymasters huge pay rises without the need for higher productivity.
Before the election, Rachel Reeves insisted Labour would not means-test the state pension – a blatant lie. Labour has been dishonest about their plans from the start, with Starmer now warning of a “painful” upcoming budget. That pain, it seems, is aimed squarely at pensioners.
The suggestion that Labour will not only freeze the personal allowance but introduce means-testing of the state pension is not just a betrayal—it is an outright attack on those who have spent their lives contributing to society.
Labour’s war on pensioners began with the scrapping of the universal winter fuel allowance, a cruel move at a time when energy bills are soaring. Now, they have set their sights on the state pension itself, threatening the very foundation of security that millions of elderly citizens rely on.
But this is not just about money—it is about respect and dignity. The elderly have worked hard, paid taxes, and built this country. Why does the Labour Party hate pensioners so much?
A simple answer is that they are an easy target and politically expendable. Pensioners are an inconvenient demographic who traditionally lean towards other parties, and many of whom will not be around to vote at the next election.
Indeed, it is likely that Labour will bring in legislation to allow assisted suicide which sadly, may be a way out for those unable to enjoy a comfortable old age or feel they are ‘a burden’ to their families.
Pensioners are targeted by a Labour Party that no longer cares about broad-based support but panders to narrower interests where their support is more certain. Labour is willing to sacrifice the well-being of millions of pensioners to push through their vicious policies.
The state pension, established by the Old Age Pensions Act of 1908, was a promise of security in old age made to every citizen. Starmer and Reeves’ actions are a betrayal not only of pensioners but of the very principles of fairness and justice that Labour once stood for, and which has abandoned its moral compass.
The Conservative Government protected and supported the incomes of pensioners by maintaining the Triple Lock and setting the Personal Allowance so a pensioner receiving a full state pension would not pay any income tax.
LATEST OPINION:
Since 2010, 200,000 fewer pensioners are living in absolute poverty after housing costs. The Conservatives always seek to protect the most vulnerable in society.
The elderly deserve our respect, care, and commitment to their well-being. Labour’s leaders have shown that they are unworthy of the trust placed in them by the British people.
Means-testing and imposing more tax on pensions is robbery; Labour must not undermine the financial bedrock of retirement, and it must encourage and reward people for saving for their retirement, not punish them and their families for doing so.
In their pursuit of power, Labour’s leaders have shown their true colours and their betrayal of the vulnerable must not be accepted.
It is time for the nation to stand up and reject these cruel policies, defend the dignity and rights of our pensioners, and demand much better from those who seek to govern us.
