If you ever wondered why our country feels ungovernable, I think it would be wise to look at who is actually governing us.
Of the 257 new Labour MPs who came into office two years ago, 72 came out of the charity sector. Ie, they know how to rattle the can, but have no idea either how to make the can or actually how to fill it up from their own resources.
That’s why they love being in government. It’s other people’s money. And they can always find fresh and interesting ways of spending your money rather than our own.
In an analysis done by The Sunday Times, another 72 newbies came from a communications or lobbying background, with a further 70 being former “political” employees either as councillors, trade unionists or government advisors. All pretty useless.

Your Say
None of them have ever run a business. Oh no. Labour doesn’t want those nasty types having a say in how your taxes are spent. They don’t want people going through the balance sheet every day.
Starmer just wants your taxes given away to every SKID (Skint Dim Idle Socialist) who knocks at the door of No10 with their hand out.
Those poor souls who have to hit sales targets or fire people when the business gets into trouble would never be allowed anywhere near a Socialist constituency. But It’s a different story if you had anything to do with international aid.
Work with foreign aid and suddenly, out comes the welcome mat. It’s how Bridget Phillipson, currently doing such a splendid job of ruining our education system, got preferment. She worked for a refuse charity. Her mum started it. Next minute she’s in the Cabinet.
So, it’s no surprise that Starmer and his Government have been a total disaster. And, unbelievably things, are going to get worse.
Let’s take it one by one. Incredibly, Starmer is going to focus on the cost of living as his big campaign idea. Is he bonkers?
Look what costs are going up in April – and the Iran war cannot be blamed. Higher council tax makes up more than half (£109) of the £214.10 average annual increase in combined household bills we all face from next month.
The remainder is an extra £32.40 for water, £39.60 for broadband, £27.60 for mobile and £5.50 for a TV licence. And Starmer thinks the cost of living is a vote winner for him? The man is either a bloody fool or he is a charlatan.
The latter is more likely. Very quietly Labour has just announced that it will not hit its much- promised target for the NHS in reducing waiting times for A&E, cancer care and hospital treatment.
Then there’s new homes. Prior to their election Starmer and co. promised 1.5 million homes would be built. Everybody said it was nonsense, and so it has turned out to be. It looks like 1.1million at best.
Angela Rayner was housing secretary and would have had to take the full custard pie on the lack of homes has she not been forced out of Government.
Finally, we have the never-ending scandal of migrants crossing the channel. There have been 70,000 successful crossings since the election and Starmer hates talking about because he has no solution except for every so often reeling off one of his useless slogans: “One-in, one out”... “smash the gangs”... nothing changes.
It occurred to me that if he wouldn’t say anything about the illegal migrants, at least he might talk about their victims. Like the 12-year-old girl was raped by Afghan national Ahmad Mulakil, 23, just four months after he arrived here by boat last March.
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but that little girl who was playing on a swing in Nuneaton received a life sentence.
Does Starmer say nothing because the attackers are invariably Muslim and he fears another Gorton and Denton at the polling booths?
If he thinks that silence will save him on May 6, he’s more stupid than even I took him for.
Labour will be slaughtered in Wales, Scotland and the English councils. Perhaps that’s why there are so many employees from the charity sector on the party’s benches.
Their job is to soothe Starmer’s furrowed brow when the results come in. There’s no other reason they’ve been elected.
