Remember when Sir Keir Starmer told MPs he was aware of Peter Mandelson's maintained relations with Jeffrey Epstein?
I was driving at the time listening to PMQ’s - I had to park up for a moment. Partly because Keir Starmer actually answered a question.
He claimed he was lied to and that he was concerned about the victims. Funny that.
Darren Jones, Chief Secretary to the PM, the man who clearly lives in an alternate reality when he claimed that dinghys were full of women, babies and girls, told us yesterday after seeing the report that the Prime Minister has taken responsibility for Peter Mandelson's appointment as ambassador to the United States.

Even after we had already learned yesterday that Keir Starmer was warned in the vetting that Mandelson posed a serious risk.
In fact the 147 page document contained 23 mentions of the word "risk", five mentions of the words "reputational risk" and eight references to the Prime Ministers reputation.
The vetting clearly made Keir Starmer aware what he was getting himself into and it looked like he ignored it and gave Mandelson the job anyway.
No wonder he tried to avoid scrutiny. But his own MP’s refused to back that, and even the unions are deserting him.

Nana Akua questions whether Keir Starmer's latest apology for Peter Mandelson's appointment is enough

Labour’s biggest union backer, Unite, has cut its annual donation to the party by more than £500,000 and its members will be formally consulted on whether they want to remain in the Labour party.
And finally, our Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has said sorry and that it’s his fault.
He said: "Let me start where I must start, which is to accept, as I do, that I made a mistake in appointing Peter Mandelson.
"And let me follow that up swiftly, as I've done before, but I need to do it again, with an apology to the victims of Epstein for appointing Peter Mandelson.
"It was my mistake and I take responsibility in relation to it. The release of the information shows what was known that led to further questions being asked.
"Unfortunately, because of the Metropolitan Police investigation, we can't release that information yet.
"But that doesn't take away from the fact that it was me that made the mistake, and it's me that makes the apology to the victims of Epstein and I do that."
It’s painful isn’t it - the question is, is that good enough?
