Keir Starmer is ensuring that Labour will be consigned to the political dustbin for decades – if not forever, writes columnist

Andy Burnham was never going to save his party or this country if he’d got the PM’s job. He’s cowardly, weak, indecisive and never in a million years is he a leader. In fact, he’s Starmer 2.0.

But none of that’s the point.

The point is, we have the worst Prime Minister in history running this country into the ground because he’s incapable of doing the job, yet he’ll do anything to cling onto that job – even if it involves scuppering the democratic process; even if it involves making himself look bent and scared and like the biggest lame duck alive.

And that’s exactly what Keir Starmer has done in personally helping to scupper Andy Burnham’s chances of becoming an MP, which would have allowed him to pitch for the leadership job.

And the deadbeat Starmer did that because he knew he’d lose against him. This is a man who wants power at any cost – and he’s prepared to do whatever it takes to hang onto it.

We always suspected it but after his by-election block on Burnham at the weekend its now clear the weakling Starmer is willing to sell his soul, his pride, his principles - all so he can keep the keys to Downing street a little while longer, so he can cavort around the world pretending who he is and what he does matters and so he can sign off his emails as Keir Starmer PM.

Doesn’t the man see he’s an international laughing stock? At least Trump has the guts to say out loud he thinks he’s stupid, but make no mistake, the rest of the world is thinking it too!

This is the bloke who just last week said he was going to stand up to Trump, but he can’t even stand up to the Mayor of Manchester, who frankly is the weakest and worst candidate who could ever be pitted against him.

Don’t forget Burnham has twice stood for the Labour leadership – and twice he lost it for the simple reason he isn’t a leader.

Yet, he probably would have won in a leadership challenge against Starmer because his own party thinks our PM is so hopeless.

It’s a case of anyone except Starmer - even a dud like Burnham, a man who wants higher taxes, more spending – everything that has made this Government detested.

Burnham is the numpty who wants to re-nationalise everything and who knows less about the economy than Rachel Reeves.

But more importantly, he’s the man who was elected by the good people of Manchester to represent them, but was prepared to dump them to go for the prize of PM.

Doesn’t say much about his commitment to the British people.

So No, he was never going to make even a half-decent Prime Minister.

But as I said, none of that is the point. Starmer didn’t block him because he thought he’d be bad for Britain. He blocked him because he’s so pathetically desperate to keep his job, a job he has proved time and again he’s incapable of doing.

And what Starmer clearly doesn’t understand is that by helping the National Executive Committee (which is stuffed with his loyalists) block Burnham’s bid, the war that’s currently tearing the Labour Party apart is going to intensify. Big time!

Labour was always banging on about the warring Tories, but what’s coming inside Labour will make all that look like a kindergarten scrap. Because the anti-Starmer mob see the Burnham blocking as a blatant stitch-up of “their boy”.

They’re raging and screaming, claiming their anger is all about Starmer flouting democracy – which, as we’ve known, Labour doesn’t give a stuff about – when we can all see it's just about power and who has it.

Starmer really needs to watch his back from now on because while Burnham was a “benign” challenger for the crown, the others waiting in the wings to take his job are rottweilers - Angela Rayner and Wes Streeting to name but two. And Starmer will deserve being torn apart by these slathering political mad dogs.

But what’s clear – although clearly not to the Labour Party – is that there isn’t a single person waiting in the wings who could revive Labour’s fortunes, who could knock Reform out of the water. Not one!

There are just dangerous, loud-mouthed wannabees like Rayner who would drive this country even further into the ground.

But until a toppling takes place, we have a prime minister who doesn’t give two hoots about the people of this country and only cares about his own survival.

And what I’m about to say doesn’t mean I support Burnham in any way, but the polls show that if he had stood for the Gorton and Denton seat, Labour would very likely have won it. But by blocking him, the idiot Starmer has now opened the door to a Reform win.

So, is this a man who puts country first? Is it hell? It’s a man who puts his own survival first. As for his Party. Well, by clinging on by his grubby fingernails, Starmer is ensuring that Labour will be consigned to the political dustbin for decades – if not forever - after this hellish, disastrous term is over.

And so, a major party will be ruined for what? For a weak man who has a gigantic ego but no talent, who spits on democracy, who cancels elections, who lies, who has no plan, and no idea how to run a country.

Starmer is the most hated, most incompetent PM in recent history, yet he hangs onto a job he has no clue how to do. And you have to wonder why, because every day he hangs on, it adds yet another stain to his already blackened character.

He clings to power lying a dying man clinging to a raft, not realising that his reputation, his premiership, his political career is literally dead in the water.

And instead of feeling sympathy for him, all we feel is scorn and something verging on hatred for what he’s done to this country in the name of his ego.

But we shouldn’t kid ourselves because while Burnham would have been a disaster as PM, the other “pretenders” to the throne will be even worse. They’re all a bunch of talentless no-marks who will wreak more damage on this country than we ever thought possible.

How the hell did we ever get here? Oh yes, it was because millions of voters said Labour couldn’t be worse than the Tories.

And so, what do those people think now, I wonder
