While our eyes have been taken off the ball watching the train drivers being paid by especially enlarged wheelbarrows (£81K on LNER) ) very quietly the Channel smugglers have been doing their best work since Starmer became Prime Minister.
In the last seven days, 1,427 illegals crossed the Channel in small boats, the highest number since Labour took power and dumped the Rwanda policy. And there’s no sign Starmer gives a damn about the flood of people,
Where on earth is the leader of this new Border Command which Starmer claims will, with help from MI5, the police, the French and if he’s not too busy driving a train Uncle Tom Cobley, smash the gangs.
In one of his more ludicrous outpourings, Starmer claimed that since it was organised crime these smugglers would be treated in the same way as drug gangs and be defeated. Quite clear Starmer has no idea what is actually going on in our streets.
There are more drugs gangs than ever before. Making more money. Corrupting more lives. What sign can he give us that the smugglers will be beaten.
Starmer has been banging the drum for this idea for literally six months, has been in office for a month, and can find enough time to hand out billions to state workers, but can’t find this all-important official.
So, this brainbox remains a mystery, but Starmer can find enough time to say that migrants who arrive illegally, but are granted asylum, will be allowed to compete with Brits for council houses. How wrong is that?
Under the new Border Security Command, officers will be granted new powers to allow them to conduct stop and searches at the border, carry out financial investigations and issue search and seizure warrants targeting organised immigration crime.
I feel certain that 95% of these powers were available in any event. It’s just huff and puff. Starmer, without any media scrutiny, has announced he is sending £84million to Africa and the Middle East countries in an attempt to tackle illegal immigration ‘’at source’’.
Starmer said the money will go towards ‘’health and education’’ initiatives and ‘’humanitarian’’ support to address the underlying causes that lead people to flee their homelands.
That will be a total waste of money.
Those countries are in favour of their people leaving as they can’t support them. There’s no work and there’s definitely no benefits. So, get to the UK and under our busted system you will be entitled to a state handout and a sporting chance of a council house under Labour.
Is it any wonder 132,896 have arrived here by small boats since 2018- that’s six Durhams and there’s been 19,066 this year alone. Does anybody care?
Labour will do bugger all for five years and then be thrown out, but I must say none of the Tory leadership contenders fill me with much hope by offering a policy which the country can buy into.
James Cleverly was right when he said that Starmer sent a ‘’dangerous signal’’ to traffickers when he abandoned Rwanda but has not offered a solution. Nor has Mel Stride and I have to wonder what he’s even doing in the race.
Tugendhat suddenly announces ECHR will have to go, but not even he believes it will get through the One Nation brigade which dominates the Tory bench. I am hopeful of Jenrick but feel Kemi has shot her bolt.
A pretty depressing line-up. The only real hope in this area comes from Farage who wants to push the migrants back to France and have a bloody good row. I’m all for that.
