'How have we learnt nothing since March 2020?'

Boris Johnson ratcheting the fear factor over Omicron to “panic stations/we're all going to die” on a Sunday night less than two weeks before Christmas has made me feel physically ill.
That deep anxiety I can’t shake is because it’s clear to me my prediction the past few months that we are on a one-way path to a January lockdown is eventuating by stealth.
While the PM talks of a terrifying tidal wave of Omicron, all I can think about is a far bigger wave of mental health problems, at home deaths, damaged education opportunities and missed cancer diagnoses as the NHS is once again rebranded the National Covid Service.
How have we learnt nothing since March 2020?
In the march towards further curbs on our lives, what seems to be completely missing is the evidence that Omicron is a big killer. In fact, the South African experts beg us to calm down because all the early real-world data suggests this variant is far milder.
Yet the hysteria continues at pace. So I feel the time has come for Boris to pick a path. Sure, most of us will agree to be get triple jabbed en masse if we know it will guarantee our freedoms forever more.
Yet it feels like the SAGE doom merchants and Cabinet Covid hysterics like Michael Gove will not rest until business is decimated and we're once again locked in our homes, with the government controlling who we can see and what we can do when.
I'm convinced the country is no longer terrified. But we're furious at the Covid merry go round becoming a never-ending horror show. That’s why tomorrow’s vote is the most significant of the Covid crisis so far. Every single Conservative MP with a conscience has a chance to send the clearest message to the Prime Minister and hysterics like Gove that we must learn to live with Covid-19 once and for all.
We say no to mask mandates, curbs on our freedoms and liberty-destroying vaccine passports that mark the start of a biosecurity state – especially when there is virtually no evidence they are effective in any way.
Labour and the toothless, pathetic Leader of No Opposition Keir Starmer will nod through the proposals without any scrutiny. So it’s up to the Tories to put their ambitions to one side and do what they know is the right thing.
Ahead of tomorrow’s key Commons showdown, I say to every single Tory MP this… Vote for liberty. Vote for freedom. Vote in favour of the evidence. Vote to stop a two-tier society. Vote to halt the march of the SAGE maniacs taking control of our lives again.
Vote for the right of the individual to decide what they wear, who they meet and where they go. Vote for what you KNOW is right.
So tomorrow vote against Plan B to hell with the consequences for your personal career; stand up for the long-held beliefs of your party, especially the freedom of the individual.
Tory MPs must finally send a message to Boris that he can only remain in post if he commits to living with the virus now vaccines are available as he has promised all year.
