As journalism dies in Russia because describing Putin’s war on Ukraine as an invasion could see you locked up for 15 years, the UN is unfathomably following the communist country’s playbook.

Who can we trust at the moment?

Certainly not international organisations like the World Health Organisation and the United Nations, which claim they’re on the side of good over evil but shamed themselves over the past two years of Covid, where they aided and abetted the Chinese cover-up.

As journalism dies in Russia because describing Putin’s war on Ukraine as an invasion could see you locked up for 15 years, the UN is unfathomably following the communist country’s playbook.

The UN’s Department of Global Communications has instructed all its staff NOT to refer to the war in Ukraine as a war or an invasion.

An embarrassing email obtained by The Irish Times instructed UN staff this…

“Some specific examples of language to use/not use at the moment. Use ‘conflict’ or ‘military offensive’ and NOT ‘war’ or ‘invasion’ when referring to the situation in Ukraine.”

Er, hello? That order might as well have been authored by Putin himself, who is insisting Russia’s media describe the all-out attack on innocent Ukrainian civilians as a limited military operation to wipe out the country’s Nazis.

Perhaps, the UN’s stance is no surprise, given Russia is currently head of the Security Council.

The Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba responded with rightful indignation, writing…

“It’s hard to believe that the UN could essentially impose the same kind of censorship that the Kremlin imposes inside Russia now by banning the use of the words ‘war’ and ‘invasion’. UN reputation at stake.”

Well, we can’t trust the UN anymore. We’ve known that for many years. It’s depressing but a reality.

We can’t trust the European Union to strangle the Russian economy thanks to its pathetic reliance on Putin for energy supplies – something Donald Trump warned Germany about and was roundly dismissed.

We can’t trust the seemingly senile US President Joe Biden, whose botched Afghanistan withdrawal most likely strengthened Putin’s resolve for war and whose administration gave dangerous mixed messages to Poland about the donation of fighter jets.

So what about closer to home.

The Leader of No Opposition Keir Starmer is trying to look statesmanlike but if he’d had his way Putin apologist Jeremy Corbyn would currently be leading the country.

And then there’s the dangerous SNP, which just this week repeated its pledge to scrap the UK’s nuclear deterrent Trident.

Yup, that’s right, Westminster’s village idiot Ian Blackford reiterated the commitment by Sturgeon, just as the west faces the threat of nuclear warfare by Putin.

When asked if the SNP position on scrapping Trident had changed, Blackford replied…

“No. Absolutely not at all, because there is a threat to the world from nuclear weapons. The idea that having nuclear weapons provides a deterrence that removes that threat is far-fetched, to say the least.”

Unbelievable. I’d like to see Sturgeon and Blackford try and convince Putin to get rid of Russia’s nuclear capability – they’re deluded and dangerous.

The nightmare prospect of a Labour/SNP coalition government would put our national security at threat, I have no doubt about that.

Remember, Keir Starmer has clarified that he is still calling for the Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign in the middle of the biggest international crisis since 9/11 because of that ridiculous media beat up that’s become known as Partygate.

Meanwhile, Boris Johnson has provided staunch, steadfast and sensible leadership for the world over the course of this crisis – encouraging tougher sanctions to financially cripple the Russian regime, while dismissing the prospect of a No Fly Zone over Ukraine to avoid escalating this invasion into World War Three.

A sensible approach.

He’s also committed to looking at making the UK energy independent, with fracking back on the agenda.

Also sensible.

All those calling for the Prime Minister to resign got it spectacularly wrong and they should admit their mistake.
