OPINION: Alex Armstrong shared his views on the migrant crisis

Shanty camps. Public defecation. Drunken shouting. Rubbish strewn across the streets. Tents pitched outside a five-star hotel.

No, this isn't Paris. This is London. And it’s happening right now in the heart of our capital on the doorstep of one of the most prestigious postcodes in the country. London is slowly turning into Calais.

A concerned Londoner wrote to Mayor Sadiq Khan after their child witnessed the migrant camp on her way to school. And what do you think the Mayor's office had to say in response to these very valid concerns?

Well, his team claimed that "London draws huge strength from the contribution of migrants," proudly citing the capital’s tradition of welcoming newcomers and offering sanctuary to those in need.

They added that the Mayor is, of course, working hard to tackle homelessness.

I'm sorry, what?

Open defecation. Public disorder. Unsanitary conditions. All of these have been reported at the site by local residents. And the Mayor calls London a sanctuary?

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

A sanctuary for who? People who have entered the country illegally?

There you have it. No concern for public safety. No concern about the growing number of these shanty camps.

I only warned about this last Tuesday, after Patrick showed us those incredible scenes from Calais.

Of course, the usual left-wing voices insisted this wasn’t happening. Well, it is, isn’t it? And it’s only going to get worse.

Today alone, 828 illegal migrants crossed the English Channel smashing the previous record of 705. Not a record from last year or the year before. That was a record set in April last month.

So far this year, 13,300 illegal migrants have crossed the Channel. Since Keir Starmer took office, the total number has hit 20,000.

To put that into perspective: that’s nearly the entire population of Newquay in Cornwall or the size of a full British Army division.

And just when you think it couldn’t get more barking mad it literally does. Among recent arrivals, believe it or not, was a German Shepherd. Yes, a dog smuggled in a dinghy across the Channel.

And what did our so-called secure and robust immigration system do? We quarantined the dog naturally for four months. Cost to the taxpayer? Around £12,000.

His owner? Probably doing quite well—likely housed in one of the thousands of asylum hotels that this government promised it would shut down when it took office.

This country is becoming a global punchline, and the people-smuggling gangs are laughing in our faces—in the face of the government, and in the face of the British people.

The British people are clearly being taken for fools.

If this crisis is not tackled with serious intent by this government, then the consequences for Britain could very well be irreversible.
