Vladimir Putin has said ceasefire with Ukraine is "possible" after an informative and useful phone call with US President Donald Trump that lasted two hours.
The Kremlin said that Moscow is ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum about future peace talks, although both sides must compromise, Russian state media reports.
Following the phone call, Putin told reporters near the Black Sea resort of Sochi: "We have agreed with the President of the United States that Russia will propose and is ready to work with the Ukrainian side on a memorandum on a possible future peace accord, defining a number of positions, such as, for example, the principles of settlement, the timing of a possible peace agreement."
The US president and Volodymyr Zelensky spoke for "a few minutes" before Trump's call with Putin as he strives to end the conflict, according to a close source.

The Russian president described the talks as “substantive, candid and very useful,” and said that they are "generally on the right track" to peace.
Putin also “expressed gratitude to Trump for the US role in resuming direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine”.
It comes the day after top administration officials met with Zelensky in Rome.
Trump, who spoke from Washington, issued a statement in which he said he believed the conversation "went very well".

He wrote: "Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a ceasefire and, more importantly, an end to the war."
The President revealed that both he and Russia want to do "large-scale trade" with the United States, when the "catastrophic bloodbath".
He added: "The Vatican, as represented by the Pope, has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations."
Before the negotiations, the White House said earlier today that Trump has “grown weary and frustrated” with both Russia and Ukraine.

Vice President JD Vance added that Washington could walk away from the peace process and conclude that "this is not our war".
Trump promised to bring a swift end to the war in Europe during his presidential campaign for re-election, repeatedly calling for a cease-fire.
Germany, France, Italy and Finland have been informed on the phone call, according to the President.
The President added: "Ukraine can be a great beneficiary on Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country."
