The Prime Minister hailed a 'new era' for Britain and the European Union as he announced the agreement

Shadow Foreign Secretary Dame Priti Patel has taken aim at Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's "appalling surrender deal" with the EU, following his announcement today.

Speaking to GB News, Patel launched a scathing attack on the Labour leader's "outrageous" agreement with Brussels, claiming the Government are "bending the knee" to Europe.

At a summit in London earlier today, Starmer hailed a "new era" for the UK and European Union, claiming the deal would be a "win-win" for both parties.

He stated: "Britain is back on the world stage. Working with our partners, doing deals that will grow our economy and putting more money in the pockets of working people."

Hitting out at the deal, Patel fumed: "It's not just one, there are surrender documents after surrender documents that Keir Starmer and his appalling Government have just signed us up to.

"You know what is so dreadful? It's the sheer dishonesty by the Government. They've just literally bent the knee when it comes to Brussels, and every single aspect of the way in which they've just sort of fallen at the feet of Brussels to take us back in. It is a surrender deal, but ultimately it's a betrayal of Brexit."

Defending her blistering criticism of the agreement, Patel recalled her time working in Britain's Brexit era, and blasted Starmer's "audacity" in hailing the EU deal as a "good deal for Britain".

Patel told GB News: "I think I can use that language on the basis of exactly where I was in 2016, along with so many others that stood up for the 17 million people that voted to leave. At the end of the day, it's a win for the EU, and the list is endless.

"Then you've got Keir Starmer having the audacity to stand up and say this is good for Britain. There's no evidence of that. There's no impact statements, and there are no details whatsoever on the substance."

Stressing the catastrophic impact that the deal will have on the UK's fishing industry, Patel stated that it is an "absolute disgrace" what Starmer has signed up for.

Patel explained: "I think what has happened is an absolute disgrace. The fact that he even put fishing on the table for negotiation with a 12-year sellout, where we can't come back and question and interrogate and stop EU countries from coming into our territorial waters, it's an outrage.

"He's fundamentally let this industry down. And fishermen, this is about their livelihoods, the security of their livelihoods and the future of UK fishing. That's outrageous."

Blasting Starmer's "insincerity" in delivering the deal announcement, Patel claimed that the press conference was mere "grandstanding" between the Prime Minister and the European Union.

She concluded: "These guys don't like democracy, they don't like transparency, and the fact that Keir Starmer couldn't even come to Parliament today to speak about this is equally as appalling.

"He's stood up today and didn't even think about the fishermen, and you can see he's totally insincere.

"It's just a press conference, it's statements, and it's him grandstanding with the two EU Presidents backslapping each other, saying how wonderful they are and how wonderful this deal is."
